Coming up we have a light heavyweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Jabbar Omarov (ranked 2842 p4p, 335 weight class) and Eliott Leighton (ranked 1664 p4p, 219 weight class). Leighton is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Bad to the Bone - George Thorogood. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the light heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Sydney, with a TWGC record of 3 wins and 4 losses; Jabbar Omarov! And in the blue corner, fighting out of St Petersburg, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 3 losses; Eliott Leighton! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Percy O'Donnell and Timothy Bukovac.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Omarov clinches. Leighton has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Omarov regains guard immediately. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Omarov (0) vs (2) Leighton Omarov keeping full guard, as Leighton tries to pass. Omarov working for a triangle but Leighton defends it easily.
Leighton drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Omarov dives on top into guard. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Omarov (2) vs (2) Leighton Omarov is pushing down on Leighton's leg trying to pass to half guard. Leighton is fighting to maintain full guard but Omarov has managed to sneak the leg through. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Leighton won't allow Omarov to pass to mount. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Omarov is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Leighton defends it well. Omarov is looking for a kimura here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Omarov is looking for a kimura but Leighton is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Omarov to get the leverage. Leighton looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Omarov moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Leighton. Score +3 for passing guard: Omarov (5) vs (2) Leighton Omarov is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Leighton has escaped the position, nice work there.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Omarov tries for a kimura but Leighton is defending well. Omarov wants to lay and pray for a moment but Leighton keeps working. Leighton tries to get back to half guard but can't. Omarov tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Omarov is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Leighton knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Leighton is not content to let Omarov control the position. Leighton tries to bench press Omarov off him but Omarov keeps the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Omarov trying to control the position but Leighton is working away. Leighton is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Omarov off and has taken his back! Score +4 for clean sweep to past guard: Omarov (5) vs (6) Leighton The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Leighton has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Omarov has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Leighton is looking for a choke. Omarov gets to his feet with his opponent on his back and slams him to the mat. Omarov manages to squirm out of the attempted choke and turns into his opponent's guard. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Omarov (7) vs (6) Leighton Leighton has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Omarov doesn't defend quickly enough and Leighton has managed to lock this one up! Can Omarov escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Leighton on a fantastic submission victory.
