PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between matt hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and punch master (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). hughes comes to the cage accompanied by your goin down. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, matt hughes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, punch master!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Bruno Lombardi and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

hughes scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
master is looking for a sweep. hughes is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

hughes is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, master has managed to free his arm - good work.

hughes wants to work for an arm triangle but master is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
master trying to hold on to hughes's head to control him but hughes postures up.

hughes is sneakily working for an arm triangle but master sees it coming and defends easily.

hughes is looking for a kimura but master is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for hughes to get the leverage.

hughes is working for a kimura but master is defending it quite comfortably.
master wants to control but hughes is keeping busy.

master is defending against the submission attempts here by hughes.
master is trying to stand up here but hughes is controlling him well.
master really doesn't want to stay on the ground with hughes. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

master wants to improve his position but hughes is controlling well.
master punching from the bottom.
master gets back to full guard.

hughes is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

hughes thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

hughes drops back looking for a leg! master is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and master manages to kick hughes off! hughes jumps back into master's guard.
hughes is breathing heavily.
master is trying to control the position but hughes postures up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

hughes gets the takedown into side control.

hughes tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no hughes has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
master tries to escape but hughes is in control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
hughes tries to move into full mount but can't pass master's legs.

hughes wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by master, who protects the arm well.
master tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but hughes wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

hughes working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
master tries to improve position but can't.
hughes working away.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
hughes fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

hughes closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - hughes lands in his opponent's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
master wants to get back to his feet but hughes is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
master looking to control.

hughes is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
master trying to control the position.
master wants to stand up but hughes is controlling him.

hughes is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! master is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! master has escaped and now he's on top!
hughes keeping moving, preventing master from controlling successfully.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

master avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

master has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing hughes to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! master is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - hughes pulls down on the head and he's put master to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). matt hughes!
