Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Samson Goldstein (ranked 2349 p4p, 240 weight class) and Roman Sionis (ranked 3426 p4p, 311 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 56 - 26 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Samson Goldstein!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 51 - 31 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Roman Sionis!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Stewart Dunkirk and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sionis tries for a takedown but Goldstein sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Sionis swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Sionis tries a head kick but it misses.
Sionis tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Goldstein paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Sionis fails with the takedown
and Goldstein counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Sionis tries to bum rush Goldstein with a series of wild strikes but Goldstein uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Goldstein scores with a spinning back kick!
Roman Sionis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sionis looks winded!
Sionis doesn't manage to clinch there - Goldstein circles away.

Goldstein closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Goldstein tries for a kimura but Sionis is defending well.
Sionis stops Goldstein from passing to mount.
Sionis seems a little lost for a moment, as Goldstein dominates the positioning.

Goldstein wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Sionis, who protects the arm well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sionis gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Goldstein looking to control and managing it successfully.

Goldstein looking to control but Sionis is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Goldstein controlling the pace for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Goldstein tries to control but Sionis wriggling away.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Samson Goldstein dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Goldstein looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Goldstein drops back, looking for a kneebar! Sionis looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Sionis looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Sionis!

You can see the frustration on Goldstein's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Goldstein is looking for a sweep.

Goldstein is trying to control Sionis's posture but Sionis avoids it.

Sionis has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Sionis shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Sionis was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Sionis stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Sionis shoots in looking for a takedown. Goldstein tries to sprawl out of it but Sionis keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Goldstein manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Goldstein appears to be looking for a big counter.
Goldstein tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sionis swivels and escapes.

Sionis pushes Goldstein up against the cage in a clinch.

Goldstein closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Sionis's guard.

and Goldstein counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sionis is staying active underneath Goldstein, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

That was a close second round but I would say that Samson Goldstein will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Sionis fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Goldstein avoids it really well and circles away.
Goldstein slaps away a takedown attempt from Sionis, before circling back to the center of the mat.

and Goldstein counters by moving into the clinch.
Sionis is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Goldstein pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Samson Goldstein has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Roman Sionis.
Sionis swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Goldstein changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Sionis fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Sionis feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Goldstein cracks Sionis with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Sionis closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Goldstein shoots in looking for a takedown but Sionis manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Goldstein's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Sionis tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Goldstein manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Samson Goldstein is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Goldstein is trying to trip Sionis. He has hold of a leg but Sionis is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Goldstein persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Goldstein won't allow Sionis to get back to his feet.
Goldstein is looking to stand up but Sionis won't let him.
Sionis is striking off his back. Goldstein thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Goldstein throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Sionis was covering up waiting for the punch and Goldstein finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Sionis is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Goldstein dives into side control.

Roman Sionis comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Goldstein has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Samson Goldstein spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
