PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Somalas Pusilla (ranked 6122 p4p, 190 weight class) and Abel Frey (ranked 3842 p4p, 150 weight class). Pusilla has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Somalas Pusilla!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Abel Frey!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Chris Downing and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Pusilla.
Frey moves in looking to clinch but Pusilla pushes him off.
Frey staying out of range there.
Pusilla is breathing heavily.

Frey closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Pusilla is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Frey is keeping busy.
Frey misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Pusilla.

Pusilla pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Frey goes for a double leg but Pusilla avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Pusilla continues to drive forward.
Pusilla is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pusilla shoots in and drives through. Frey sprawls well.
Frey steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Pusilla.
Frey should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
No luck for Frey with that takedown attempt.
Frey throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Pusilla looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Frey is fending him off so far but Pusilla persists. Nope, Frey circles away and we're back to standing.
Frey changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Frey shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Pusilla is trying to defend but Frey finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Frey content to control rather than advance.

Frey wants to work for an arm triangle but Pusilla is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Frey wants to control but Pusilla is keeping him busy.

Frey is working for a submission of some sort.
Frey trying to control from half guard but Pusilla is working away.

Frey content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Frey is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Pusilla sees it coming and defends easily.

Frey is working for a kimura but Pusilla is defending it quite comfortably.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Frey moves nicely into side control.
Pusilla can't do much from the bottom here.
Frey works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Frey wants to control but Pusilla is keeping him busy.
Pusilla tries to improve position but can't.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Frey wants to lay and pray for a moment but Pusilla keeps working.
Frey is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Frey decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Pusilla slaps away a takedown attempt from Frey, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Somalas Pusilla has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Abel Frey.

Frey gets in close and instigates a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Abel Frey dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



Frey looking to score a takedown here. Pusilla is defending well but Frey drives through and ends up in Pusilla's guard.

Frey stands and steps away. Pusilla gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Frey closes the distance and clinches.

Frey breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
An inside leg kick lands from Frey.
Pusilla fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Frey is trying hard to land a takedown here. Pusilla sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Frey closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Pusilla did well to prevent Frey getting side control.
Frey is pressing down on Pusilla's thigh, looking to free his foot. Pusilla is holding on for now.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Frey takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Frey is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Frey works his way into full mount!
Frey wants to control the pace but Pusilla is squirming around nicely.
Frey scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Frey wants to take Pusilla's back but he can't do it this time.

Frey tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Frey breaks from Pusilla's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Frey fails to take his opponent's back.
Frey lands a big elbow.

Frey has hold of Pusilla's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Pusilla manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Frey with the ground and pound from mount.
Frey has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Frey swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!
