PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Digi Box (ranked 4913 p4p, 442 weight class) and Walter Sobchak (ranked 5299 p4p, 462 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Digi Box!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Walter Sobchak!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, James Ackerman and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Box moves into range and clinches up with Sobchak.
Box is working for takedown but Sobchak is calmly controlling the position for now.
Sobchak gets underhooks to prevent Box's takedown attempt.

Sobchak pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Box scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Sobchak digs a good body shot into Box's ribs.
Box avoids the body shot from Sobchak.
Box takes one to the side of the head.
Box misses with a takedown attempt
and Sobchak counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Box thinking.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Digi Box. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sobchak lands a body shot.

Box throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Sobchak closes the distance and clinches.

Sobchak's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Box tries for a takedown but Sobchak sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Box shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Box on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

Sobchak closes the distance and clinches.
Box has a couple of punches blocked by Sobchak.

Sobchak manages to break the clinch.
Box is looking to clinch.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Box tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sobchak swivels and escapes.
Box moves out of the way of the counter high kick fromSobchak.
Box ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Sobchak moves away.

Sobchak manages to break the clinch.
Box goes for a double leg but Sobchak avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Sobchak continues to drive forward.
Sobchak ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Box moves away.

Box throws a body kick despite being completely out of range
and Sobchak connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Sobchak gets a takedown into half guard.
Sobchak content to control rather than advance.

Box makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Box.
Box is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Box is working for a kimura but Sobchak is defending it quite comfortably.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Box tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Sobchak defends well and Box ends up having to push Sobchak into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

A frustrated look appears on Box's face as he tries to break the clinch.

A little jabbing left from Sobchak on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Walter Sobchak showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Box throws a sloppy head kick and Sobchak moves out of range easily.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Box is defended easily by Sobchak.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Sobchak! But no joy.
Box tries to clinch but Sobchak is having none of it.
Box has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Sobchak finds it's way round the side to connect with Box's head.

Sobchak has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Box fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Sobchak avoids it really well and circles away.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Box darts in looking for a takedown but Sobchak gets double underhooks and turns Box into the cage.
Box doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Sobchak breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Sobchak manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Box on his heels. He'll look to pass Box's guard now, I'm sure.

Sobchak is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Sobchak is looking to stand up but Box won't let him.

Sobchak has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Box to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Sobchak is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Box pulls down on the head and he's put Sobchak to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Digi Box!
Digi Box was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
