Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Robinson Anderson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jock Weisley! The judges for this bout are Francis DeMontford, Damien Edna and Winston Howard.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Anderson tries to score a power double leg takedown but Weisley sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Anderson somewhat. Weisley changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. Anderson fails with a takedown attempt. A chopping leg kick lands by Weisley. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Weisley shoots in but Anderson avoids the takedown attempt easily. A momentary lapse in concentration from Weisley enables Anderson to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Weisley manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Weisley manages to escape and get back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Weisley fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Weisley tries to clinch but fails miserably and Anderson counters with a one-two to the body. Anderson misses with a series of wild punches.
Anderson misses with a body kick. Weisley fails with the takedown. Robinson Anderson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jock Weisley. Weisley shoots in for a takedown but Anderson shows good takedown defense. Anderson went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Anderson pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Despite the aggression on Weisley's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter. Weisley closes this distance looking for a takedown but Anderson circles away. Anderson shoots in for a takedown but Weisley shows good takedown defense. Anderson instigates a clinch. Anderson avoiding damage as Weisley throws knees to the body.
Weisley keeps control of Anderson as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Weisley keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Anderson's efforts to push away. Anderson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Anderson clinches with his opponent.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Weisley manages to pull guard.
Weisley looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Anderson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Anderson lands a couple of elbows. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Weisley is on top in guard.
Weisley sitting in guard here, content to control. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Weisley accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Anderson has his hands on Weisley's head, controlling the position. Weisley gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Anderson shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Weisley is trying to defend but Anderson finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Weisley kicks Anderson off and gets back to his feet. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Anderson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Weisley paws at him with a jab and circles away. Weisley will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Anderson misses with a body shot.
Anderson looking to score a takedown here. Weisley is defending well but Anderson drives through and ends up in Weisley's guard. Anderson is breathing heavily. Anderson throws a big elbow that misses. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Robinson Anderson will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Anderson moves into range and clinches up with Weisley. Anderson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Weisley checks a low kick from Anderson. Weisley drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Anderson defends it well. Weisley fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Anderson avoids it really well and circles away. Weisley closes the distance and clinches up with Anderson, looking for a takedown. Weisley pushes Anderson against the cage but Anderson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Weisley with the counter takedown but Anderson avoids it easily. Weisley avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Anderson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Weisley swats him away and circles back towards the center. Weisley fails with a takedown attempt. Anderson forces Weisley back against the cage and clinches. Anderson lands with a light punch inside. Anderson escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Anderson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Weisley as he avoids it easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Anderson tries to land a front kick but Weisley steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Weisley unleashes a big counter combination but Anderson bobs and weaves and avoids any damage. Weisley closes this distance looking for a takedown but Anderson circles away. Anderson feints and then cracks Weisley's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Weisley down. Anderson darts in and clinches Weisley up against the cage. Weisley is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Anderson is defending well. Anderson is trying to break free. Anderson is defending well against a takedown attempt. Anderson escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A left and a right from Anderson both land. Nice combination.
Weisley is rocked! Weisley is breathing heavily. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Anderson throws a monster overhand right that drops Weisley! Anderson follows up with more strikes from mount and the fight is all over!
