Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jai Hale! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Usain Thunder! The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Igor Prikhodko and Ivan Kurochkin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Thunder. Thunder with a poor takedown and Hale counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. We've been hearing that Hale has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish. Hale with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Thunder is trying to control but can't.
Hale looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Thunder with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hale looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hale looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Hale looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Thunder is looking for a sweep. Hale is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Hale wants to stand but Thunder has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Thunder shoots in and drives through. Hale sprawls well. Jai Hale has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Usain Thunder. Thunder shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Hale napping and manages to drive through into side control! Hale wants to control the position but that's not easy when your opponent is in side control! Thunder seems to be going for some sort of submission here. Hard to say what - oh, it's a Brabo choke! He's got it! Hale is tapping! Wow, great finish!
