Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ronald Mcdonald (ranked 2582 p4p, 312 weight class) and Pedro Gomez (ranked 2394 p4p, 295 weight class). The key to victory for Ronald Mcdonald has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ronald Mcdonald!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Pedro Gomez!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Winston Alpacca and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mcdonald gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Gomez counters with a shoot takedown. Mcdonald fights it but they end up in guard.
Mcdonald tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Gomez trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Mcdonald bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Gomez's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mcdonald loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Mcdonald is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Gomez is looking for a triangle but Mcdonald pushes his legs off easily.
We've been hearing good reports from Mcdonald's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mcdonald stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gomez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Mcdonald is working Gomez over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gomez can do anything to dispel that myth.

Mcdonald has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Mcdonald drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Gomez dives on top into guard.

Gomez looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Mcdonald pulls Gomez in close to his closed guard and prevents Gomez from doing any damage or advancing position.

Gomez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mcdonald has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gomez has managed to get both his arms back between Mcdonald's legs - danger averted.
Gomez must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Mcdonald looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gomez is one step ahead there.

A close round but Pedro Gomez will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Mcdonald looks for a takedown but Gomez sprawls well.
And Gomez tries to counter it with a takedown but Mcdonald pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Mcdonald is trying to control the action in half guard but Gomez is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Mcdonald is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gomez has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mcdonald is working away from the top position though.

Gomez is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Mcdonald sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Gomez's guard.
Mcdonald is nestled in close to Gomez, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gomez keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Gomez holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

Gomez is trying to maintain the position but Mcdonald is very close to passing his half guard.
Gomez tries to get to full guard but Mcdonald has control of the leg.
Mcdonald throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Gomez to regain full guard.
Mcdonald postures up in Gomez's guard and throws a big left but Gomez blocks it.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Mcdonald's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Mcdonald is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Gomez is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mcdonald is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Gomez is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Mcdonald looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
