Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Caius Cosades (ranked 613 p4p, 76 weight class) and Steven Petersen (ranked 899 p4p, 109 weight class). Cosades comes into the arena with Morrowind blaring out of the sound system. Caius Cosades has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 18 - 1, fighting out of New York, Caius Cosades!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Steven Petersen!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Richard Clark and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cosades checks a leg kick.
We've been hearing reports that Cosades has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Petersen misses with a wild body shot.

Steven Petersen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Cosades is nestled in close to Petersen, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Petersen tries to roll over but Cosades keeps him under control.

Cosades is working for a kimura but Petersen is defending it quite comfortably.
Petersen regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Cosades.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Cosades's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Petersen controls Cosades momentarily but Cosades frees himself.

Cosades looking to sit in guard and control but Petersen gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Cosades has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Petersen is working away from the top position though.

Cosades is controlling Petersen's trapped leg to prevent Petersen from advancing to side control.
Cosades is looking to control Petersen's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Cosades avoid being mounted?

That's time! Cosades's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Petersen looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Petersen throws a jab when Cosades was well out of range.
Petersen lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Petersen scores with a kick to the body.
Petersen scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Cosades doesn't seem bothered though.
Petersen has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Petersen lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Cosades circles away quickly and effectively.

Cosades takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Petersen lands with a kick to the temple. Cosades shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Cosades is looking to work some ground and pound but Petersen has wrist control.

Cosades is really struggling to control Petersen but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Petersen is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Petersen lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Cosades has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Petersen is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Cosades.
Caius Cosades overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Cosades has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Cosades escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Petersen gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Cosades wants to control the position but Petersen says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Petersen is stalling here. Cosades is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Petersen seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Cosades has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

A close second round but Steven Petersen will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Cosades's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!


Cosades tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Petersen is able to avoid easily.
Cosades throws a body punch but Petersen moves out of range.

Cosades is looking to wear down Petersen with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

Cosades dives in and grabs Petersen's left leg, looking for a takedown. Petersen pushes down on Cosades's head and hops out.

The crowd cheers as Petersen lands an impressive looking overhand right. Cosades doesn't seem phased though.

Cosades tries to counter with a takedown but Petersen is quick to defend against it.
Petersen will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Petersen manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cosades manages to get himself to full guard.

Petersen tries to free his leg and advance position but Cosades is retaining full guard.

Cosades throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Petersen escapes and throws Cosades's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Cosades manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Cosades not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Petersen has momentary wrist control but Cosades slips an elbow through the middle.

Our spies down at at Touch Of Death Combat Academy inform us that Petersen has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Caius Cosades.
I think Petersen has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
