CACC 48 PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a featherweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Dilon Goncalves (ranked 3772 p4p, 334 weight class) and Peter Smith (ranked 3679 p4p, 325 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Goncalves might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to TAPOUT. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the featherweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Los Angeles, with a TWGC record of 7 wins and 1 losses; Dilon Goncalves! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Los Angeles, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 6 losses; Peter Smith! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Smith closes the distance and clinches. Smith jumps into guard, dragging Goncalves to the mat.
Goncalves is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Smith is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Smith has escaped and now he's on top! Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Goncalves (0) vs (2) Smith Smith trying to control but Goncalves is working from the bottom. Goncalves escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Smith gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Smith told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet. Smith trying to control the position from guard on top but Goncalves is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Goncalves looking for a guillotine here but Smith defends easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Goncalves is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Smith is aware though and is defending well. Smith must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Smith trying to control but Goncalves is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Smith drops back looking for a leg! Goncalves is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Goncalves manages to kick Smith off! Smith jumps back into Goncalves's guard. Goncalves has his foot on Smith's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Smith works his way back into a safe position though. Goncalves seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission. Goncalves throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Goncalves has his foot on Smith's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Smith can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Smith trying to control but Goncalves is working from the bottom. Goncalves keeping moving, preventing Smith from controlling successfully. Smith drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Smith jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Goncalves is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Smith defends well. Smith got a little sloppy there for a moment and Goncalves has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Smith has managed to get both his arms back between Goncalves's legs - danger averted. Smith drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Smith as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Goncalves screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Smith! Nice submission victory there!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 5:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). Peter Smith! Peter Smith really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Hot Spunk logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty. |
