Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ben Penn! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Nelis Mulder! The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Winston Alpacca and Michael Johnstone.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A momentary lapse in concentration from Penn enables Mulder to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Penn manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Penn trying to keep a closed guard but Mulder is proving a slippery customer.
Mulder looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Mulder looking to pass the guard. Mulder passes Penn's left leg - he's now in half guard. Penn is trying to control but can't.
Penn tries to get to full guard but Mulder has control of the leg. Mulder with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mulder wants to free his trapped foot but Penn is holding on for dear life with his legs. Mulder is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Penn sees it coming and defends easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mulder is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Penn manages to escape and get back to his feet! Penn looks to clinch and Mulder counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Mulder content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Penn tries to get to full guard but Mulder has control of the leg. Penn is in trouble now - Mulder has advanced to mount!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Penn is desperately trying to improve his position but Mulder has a good base and remains in mount. Mulder is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by Mulder!
