PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Beltran (ranked 3183 p4p, 160 weight class) and Henry The Crab (ranked 2022 p4p, 117 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 34 - 23 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Carlos Beltran!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Henry The Crab!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Chris Downing and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Beltran manages to get an easy takedown there - catching The Crab on his heels. He'll look to pass The Crab's guard now, I'm sure.

The Crab has his foot on Beltran's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Beltran works his way back into a safe position though.

The Crab had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Beltran defends it easily.
Beltran has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The Crab is looking for a triangle here but Beltran uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The Crab throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

The Crab seems to be working for a kimura but Beltran defends the submission attempt.

The Crab is working for a submission of some sort.
Beltran wants to get back to his feet.

The Crab looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The Crab is trying to work for a kimura but Beltran is defending well.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Beltran is trying to control but can't.

The Crab is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Beltran sees it coming and defends easily.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
The Crab seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Beltran does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Beltran.
Beltran scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Beltran shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. The Crab manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

The Crab is looking for a triangle but Beltran pushes his legs off easily.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Beltran accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Well, with The Crab on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Beltran is tapping out... Can he escape the position?

The Crab has got his arm under Beltran's chin working for the choke… has he got it? It looks pretty tight! Oh! Beltran has spun round into The Crab's guard beautifully! Well done that man!

Beltran decides to stand back up.
The Crab fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Beltran lands with a slapping head kick.


It looks like Henry The Crab has been cut.
The Crab shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Carlos Beltran has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Henry The Crab.
Beltran tries to bum rush The Crab with a series of wild strikes but The Crab uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The Crab goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Beltran has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for The Crab but great work by Beltran.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

The Crab fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Beltran sprawls well initially but The Crab persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

The Crab is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Beltran defends it well.
The Crab is pressing down on Beltran's thigh, looking to free his foot. Beltran is holding on for now.
Beltran regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from The Crab.

The Crab drops back, looking for a kneebar! Beltran looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Beltran looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Beltran!

The Crab felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Beltran gets to mount! The Crab was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

The Crab moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

The Crab has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Beltran can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The Crab working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Beltran doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Beltran manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The Crab pulls Beltran in close to prevent any damage.

Beltran stands and steps away. The Crab gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Beltran tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but The Crab paws at him with a jab and circles away.
The Crab displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Beltran.

The Crab closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Beltran quickly recovers to half guard.

Beltran is looking to get back to is feet but The Crab passes into side control.

The Crab takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Beltran dodges the ground and pound from The Crab.
Beltran pushes The Crab away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, The Crab gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
The Crab works to advance to full mount. Beltran defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

The Crab goes for an armbar but Beltran turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Beltran.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Henry The Crab.
I think The Crab has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
