PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Zeru Subramaniam (ranked 4991 p4p, 99 weight class) and Gobinda Svatopluk (ranked 4990 p4p, 107 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Zeru Subramaniam!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Gobinda Svatopluk!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Marco Blurström and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Subramaniam throws a body shot but no joy.
A head kick misses from Svatopluk.
Svatopluk fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Subramaniam throws a big counter combination but Svatopluk scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Subramaniam drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Subramaniam prevents Svatopluk from improving his position.
Subramaniam throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Subramaniam is taking a breather. Svatopluk says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Subramaniam is looking to stall here but Svatopluk recovers full guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Svatopluk tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in to close the distance. Subramaniam manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Subramaniam shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Svatopluk's guard.
Svatopluk wants to sweep but no luck.
Subramaniam controlling from the top position.
Subramaniam tries to free his leg and advance position but Svatopluk is retaining full guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Svatopluk has his foot on Subramaniam's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Subramaniam works his way back into a safe position though.

Subramaniam wants to pass the guard but Svatopluk is keeping the position.

Subramaniam stands and throws Svatopluk's legs to the side, diving into side control.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Svatopluk is not content to let Subramaniam control the position.
Svatopluk manages to get back to half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Subramaniam takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Zeru Subramaniam dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Subramaniam looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Svatopluk!

Svatopluk bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Zeru Subramaniam is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Svatopluk shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Subramaniam sprawls well. Subramaniam wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Svatopluk gets slowly back to his feet.
Svatopluk jabs Subramaniam right on the nose. Subramaniam blinks but takes it well.

and Svatopluk counters with a series of strikes. Subramaniam will be more careful next time no doubt.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Svatopluk changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Subramaniam tries to avoid it but Svatopluk manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Subramaniam to the ground. Subramaniam escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Subramaniam shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Subramaniam not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Svatopluk is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Subramaniam is aware though and is defending well.
Svatopluk is breathing heavily.
Svatopluk has momentary wrist control but Subramaniam slips an elbow through the middle.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Svatopluk is in trouble now - Subramaniam has advanced to mount!
Subramaniam lands a heavy elbow.
Subramaniam lands a big shot there that rocks Svatopluk but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Subramaniam with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Subramaniam takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Subramaniam seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Svatopluk for as long as he can get away with.
Subramaniam's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Subramaniam is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Svatopluk has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Svatopluk!
Subramaniam wants to hit a switch here but Svatopluk passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Subramaniam there!

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Svatopluk has his takedown stuffed

and Subramaniam counters by moving into the clinch.
Svatopluk is trying to pull guard but Subramaniam turns him against the ropes and we stay in the clinch.

Svatopluk won't allow Subramaniam to get back to his feet.
Svatopluk wants to get up but he can't break Subramaniam's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Subramaniam has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Subramaniam closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Svatopluk bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Subramaniam bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Svatopluk's guard.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Subramaniam, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
