1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Piotr Mochocki! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 9 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Islam Makhacevov! The judges for this bout are Josh West, Ryoma Takatsuka and Roger Salmon.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Makhacevov shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Makhacevov showed some decent athleticism there. Mochocki is looking to escape. Makhacevov trying to control the pace. Makhacevov is trying to control the action in half guard but Mochocki is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Makhacevov looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Makhacevov thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Mochocki's head. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Makhacevov is trying to control the action in half guard but Mochocki is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. That's one minute gone in the round. Mochocki has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Makhacevov is on him like a limpet, forcing Mochocki back against the ropes. The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Mochocki stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mochocki wants it to stay on the feet. It looked like Mochocki was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit. Mochocki darts in and clinches Makhacevov up against the ropes. Makhacevov is trying to drag Mochocki to the mat but Mochocki just about manages to keep his footing. He used the ropes to his advantage there. Mochocki lands a nice uppercut. I was talking to Mochocki's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Mochocki pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Makhacevov shoots in for a takedown but Mochocki shows good takedown defense.

Makhacevov has a closed guard, preventing Mochocki from standing up. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Makhacevov is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Piotr Mochocki. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mochocki, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
