PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jackson Portis (ranked 675 p4p, 94 weight class) and Ronie Cash (ranked 1630 p4p, 209 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jackson Portis!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ronie Cash!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Robert Twigg and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cash jabs at Portis's body.
Cash ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Portis moves away.
The crowd cheers as Cash lands an impressive looking overhand right. Portis doesn't seem phased though.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Cash.
Portis lands a really nice looking cross but Cash seems unphased.
Cash takes one to the side of the head.
Portis keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Portis throws an off balance right hand
and Cash counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Cash swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Cash jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Cash closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Portis quickly recovers to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cash uses his free foot to push down on Portis's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Portis.
Cash wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.
Cash controlling from mount.
Cash mounts Portis! Really nice guard pass there!

Cash is working for a guillotine from mount but Portis frees his head quite easily.
Cash with some aggressive grappling here, looking for the finish.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cash trying to control but Portis is having none of it.
Cash pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.
Portis's coaches at Beau's have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.
Cash is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cash controlling his opponent.

Cash goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Portis is on top in guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Portis avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Cash is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Portis with a flurry of punches that miss.
Portis preventing the sweep.
Portis trying to control but Cash is working from the bottom.
Cash lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Portis keeping moving, preventing Cash from controlling successfully.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cash trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Portis is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Cash wants to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ronie Cash dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Cash uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Portis.
Cash lands a jab to Portis's midsection.
Portis throws a poor cross that misses
and Cash counters with a nice body shot.
Cash tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Cash has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Cash misses with a hook.
It looked like Portis wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Cash's coach down at Brotherhood MMA (16 ELITE COACHES) was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Cash's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Portis misses with a straight left.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cash scores with a jab to the jaw.
Cash misses with a hook
and Portis counters with a stiff right hand.
A big right from Cash misses.

Cash misses with a lunging right hand
and Portis counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Cash swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Cash avoids the body shot from Portis.
Portis moves forwards but Cash connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Cash swings widly with a right hand
and Portis connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Cash throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Cash lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Cash uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Portis has time to react.
Cash with a lazy takedown attempt
and Portis counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Portis scores with a crisp jab that stopped Cash in his tracks.


Cash is rocked!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Portis drops a shoulder and throws a monster hook that connects perfectly to the side of Cash's head, knocking him out cold! Portis is extatic as he celebrates with his cornermen.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:14 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Jackson Portis!

Jackson Portis decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
