PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Broklyn Red (ranked 4757 p4p, 101 weight class) and Hero Shima (ranked 4756 p4p, 102 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Broklyn Red!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hero Shima!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Tiny Johnson and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Red keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
As Shima tries to get set, Red tries to push him back and clinch up but Shima manages to avoid the attempt.
Shima should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Red shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Shima is trying to defend but Red finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Red throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Shima trying to control here.
Red wants to stand up but Shima has a hold of him and won't allow it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Shima is looking for a sweep. Red is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Red is pressing down on Shima's thigh, looking to free his foot. Shima is holding on for now.
Shima blocking the ground and pound attempt from Red.
Shima tries to get to full guard but Red has control of the leg.
Shima wants to control but Red is keeping busy.
Red thows a huge punch but Shima dodges it nicely.
Red tries to pass the half guard into mount. Shima knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Shima tries to sprawl but Red drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Shima wants to stand back up but Red manages to pass into side control.
Shima looking for a sweep but Red has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Red controlling his opponent.
Red is looking to stand but Shima has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.
Shima keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Red is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Shima to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Shima shrugs it off.
Red tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Red looking to ground and pound but Shima is blocking nicely.
Red moves to the back position.
Red keeps control of the position easily here as Shima tries to buck him off.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Red has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.

Shima is having to fend off submission attempts from Red, who is looking to sink in the choke. Red doesn't have the hooks in though and Shima manages to reverse position! He's now on top, in his opponent's guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action!


Red throws a leg kick
and Shima counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Red shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Shima is trying to control the position but Red postures up.
Red wants to get up but he can't break Shima's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Red stays in close to Shima's body and controls the position.
Red passes into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Red wants to get back to his feet.
Red content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Red's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Red is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Shima doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Red.
Red thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Shima's head.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Red fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Shima to the ground. Red is now in Shima's guard.
Shima being controlled here, momentarily.

Red drops back looking for a leg! Shima is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Shima manages to kick Red off! Red jumps back into Shima's guard.
Shima is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Shima trying to keep a closed guard but Red is proving a slippery customer.
Broklyn Red overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Red sitting in guard here, content to control.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Red might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Red would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Shima closes the distance and clinches up with Red, looking for a takedown. Shima pushes Red against the cage but Red circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Horrible takedown attempt by Shima or perhaps it was just good defense by Red, which made it look bad.
Red is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Shima can do to turn this around?

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
No luck for Shima with that takedown attempt.
Broklyn Red has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hero Shima.

Red closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Shima has had enough of the clinch but Red keeps him there for the moment.

Shima escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Red closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Shima's guard.
Shima wants to hit a switch here but Red passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Shima there!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Red takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Broklyn Red dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Shima doesn't manage to clinch there - Red circles away.
Shima connects with a leg kick. Red looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

Red drives through and clinches with Shima against the cage.
Shima tries to break the clinch but Red is controlling the position.
A head punch on the inside from Red fails to land.
Shima looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Red lands a takedown into guard.
Shima not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Shima working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Red.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shima has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Red has passed into side control.
Red wants to stand but Shima is controlling his arm.
Shima tries to buck Red off but Red is having none of it.

A control attempt from Shima but he's now mounted!

Red goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Shima turns into him and now he's in Red's guard.
Red pulls Shima in close to prevent any damage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Shima wants to pass the guard but Red is keeping the position.
Red is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Red not doing much here.
Red passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Shima!

Red has hold of Shima's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Shima manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Red jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Shima manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Shima tries to improve position but can't.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Red is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Red has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Shima!

Red looking to control and managing it successfully.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that's the end of the fight!
Broklyn Red showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Red, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
