Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
22 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Crack Head! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Merel! The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Sergei Dronov and Aleksei Zolotukhin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Head cracks a nice hook into Merel's ribs. Merel throws a sloppy body shot
and Merel takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Merel looks to land a left hand but Head moved out of range nicely. Merel fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Head avoids it really well and circles away. Head swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. It seemed like Merel was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Merel scores with a crisp jab that stopped Head in his tracks. Merel fails with the takedown and Head counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Merel throws a body punch but Head moves out of range. Head looks to land a right hand but Merel moved out of range. Merel listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Merel, as that shot connected.

Merel misses with a right hand and Head counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Head throws a big shot that misses. Merel looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. Merel connects with a crisp jab. Merel misses with a jab, cross combination.
Crack Head is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Merel fails with the takedown and Head counters with a left to the body. Crack Head has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mark Merel. Merel's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Merel duly obliges. A left and a right from Merel both land. Nice combination. This has been an exciting period of action! A shot to the liver by Merel. Beautiful body shot. Merel throws a poor cross that misses
and Head counters with a right hand to the body. Head missing with a left hand there. Merel was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Head misses the jab. Head looks to land a left hand but Merel moved out of range nicely. Merel throws a jab when Head was well out of range. Head appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body. Head just misses with a punch to the body.
Head tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Merel was well out of range. Poor timing from Head. A jab from Merel does it's job there. Merel shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Head counters with a nice body shot. Merel stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Head stuffs the takedown attempt from Merel. Merel gets slowly back to his feet. Head displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Merel throws out the jab.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Head takes a jab right on the kisser.
Head throws a hook but Merel blocks it. Merel doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter. Merel is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Head had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté. Merel takes a swing at Head's ribcage but misses. Head with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Merel to score with a decent uppercut. Mark Merel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Merel looks to land a right hand but Head moved out of range. Head throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

and Merel makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Merel lands a nice hook to Head's body. Head takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Merel cracks Head with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. Head takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Merel lands a head shot. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Merel scores with a nice right hand.

A looping hook to the body misses from Head. Merel does a little dance to reset his feet. Merel lands a head shot. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Merel. It looked like Head wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Merel bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Head's head backwards. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mark Merel dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Merel shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Merel showed some decent athleticism there. Still in half guard, Merel seems content to control. Head on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Merel stalling. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Head tries to get to full guard but Merel has control of the leg. Merel is nestled in close to Head, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Merel lands a nice short elbow. Merel working the head and body with strikes. Head is looking for a sweep. Merel is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Head on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Merel has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Merel is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Head on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Head tries to get out of the position. Merel scoring with strikes to the body and head. Merel stalling away here and it's allowed Head to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. Head is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Merel is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Head is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Head seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Head can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Merel controls the pace. Head keeping moving, preventing Merel from controlling successfully. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Merel postures up.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Merel throws a big shot that misses. Merel dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Merel goes for a double leg but Head avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Head continues to drive forward. A little feinted left hand from Head on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Head digs a good hook to Merel's body.
Merel throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Head throws a looping overhand right but Merel ducks down to avoid it. Merel misses the jab. Head throwing a counter right hand but Merel manages to avoid it. Merel fails miserably with a takedown attempt. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mark Merel showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Merel takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Merel throws a body shot but no joy. It looked like Head wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Merel with a nice cross. Head looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that. No luck with that takedown attempt from Merel. Crack Head has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mark Merel. Head throws a body punch but Merel moves out of range. Merel slips a jab from Head.

Merel thuds a left hand into Head's body. Head gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Merel trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Merel preventing the sweep. Merel distracts Head with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Merel postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Merel preventing the sweep. Merel is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Merel has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Merel postures up and lands a big shot to Head's brow. Merel is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Merel trying to control but Head is working from the bottom. Head throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land. Merel is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
And that's the end of the fight! Mark Merel comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Merel has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
