PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Quiquon Mangan (ranked 24757 p4p, 294 weight class) and Dechlan Tomsett (ranked 5609 p4p, 265 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Quiquon Mangan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Dechlan Tomsett!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Daniel Franklin and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A punch combination from Mangan misses.

Tomsett closes the distance and clinches.

Mangan manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Tomsett misses with a series of wild punches.
Mangan tries to bum rush Tomsett with a series of wild strikes but Tomsett uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Mangan tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Tomsett manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Mangan shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Tomsett has picked Mangan up - he's going for a ride! Tomsett dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Tomsett perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Mangan knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Tomsett on the ground.
Mangan has hold of Tomsett's hands but Tomsett slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Mangan is trying to stand up here but Tomsett is controlling him well.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Tomsett seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Tomsett is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Mangan tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Tomsett manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Tomsett! But no joy.
Sloppy strikes from Tomsett. Those never looked like landing.
Mangan throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Tomsett throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Mangan.

and Mangan counters with a head kick. That will keep Tomsett thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Tomsett is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Mangan's half guard.
Mangan wants to stand back up but Tomsett manages to pass into side control.

That was a close round but I would say that Quiquon Mangan will probably get the nod.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Tomsett.
Quiquon Mangan is winning the standup battle so far.
Mangan lands a nice leg kick that just misses Tomsett's sensitive parts.

and Tomsett counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Tomsett feints a jab promting Mangan to slip. Tomsett then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Mangan slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Mangan seems a little flustered. He's come in with the intention of controlling the clinch but Tomsett is preventing him from doing so, at least for the moment.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Tomsett throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Mangan tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Tomsett is in Mangan's guard.

Dechlan Tomsett showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Mangan scores with a head kick. Tomsett tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.

Tomsett closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Mangan did well to prevent Tomsett getting side control.

No joy there for Tomsett, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Mangan throws a big counter combination but Tomsett scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Quiquon Mangan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Tomsett throws a right hand that Mangan ducks under and follows up with a left that Mangan also avoids with ease.

Tomsett is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Tomsett has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Mangan is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Mangan takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Mangan tries to close the distance and clinch but Tomsett swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Tomsett passes Mangan's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Tomsett will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Tomsett throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Dechlan Tomsett comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Tomsett has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
