Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Habib Putins! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Adam Cole! The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, David Hoff and Bart Greer.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cole tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Putins manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Putins avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Putins misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Cole wants to counter the offense by Putins and move into the clinch position. Cole looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Cole tries to close the distance and clinch up but Putins swats him away and circles back towards the center. Cole pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Putins feinted with a counter takedown. Putins manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Cole on his heels. He'll look to pass Cole's guard now, I'm sure. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Putins landing some decent shots from guard. Putins has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Putins controlling from the top position. Cole looking to hit a scissor sweep but Putins is one step ahead there. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Putins postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Putins forces his way into half guard. Cole tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Putins has advanced to mount. Uh oh. Putins controlling the position easily from mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cole wants to control but Putins is having none of it. Putins can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Cole is looking to escape. Putins content just to control the position here. Putins landing punches.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cole is squirming around, avoiding Putins's attempts to control the action. Putins tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Putins unloading with bombs! Cole really wants to buck Putins off and get back to his feet. Putins content just to control the position here. Cole tries to hold on but Putins pushes him away.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cole is looking to get to half guard. Putins trying to control but Cole is having none of it. Putins has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Cole is forced to tap!
