Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Full Time Panda! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sasha Khadartsev! The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Fedor Mirinova and Aleksandr Martynov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice sprawl there from Khadartsev as Panda shoots in. Khadartsev tries to score a power double leg takedown but Panda sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Khadartsev somewhat. Khadartsev misses with a wild body shot. We've been hearing reports that Panda has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. Good shot there by Khadartsev. Panda throws a body shot but no joy. Panda takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
It looks like Full Time Panda has been cut. Panda shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Khadartsev wants to sweep but no luck. Khadartsev manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Panda manages to get himself to full guard.
Khadartsev is fighting to break Panda's control of his arms but Panda is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Panda avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Panda pulls Khadartsev in close to prevent any damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Khadartsev stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Panda swivels though and keeps the full guard. Khadartsev has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Khadartsev trying to control the position from guard on top but Panda is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Khadartsev engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Khadartsev wants to pass the guard but Panda is keeping the position. Khadartsev working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Khadartsev slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Panda wants to sweep but no luck.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Khadartsev working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Khadartsev trying to control the position from guard on top but Panda is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Panda might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Khadartsev accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Khadartsev connects with a couple of short punches. Khadartsev throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Panda keeping moving, preventing Khadartsev from controlling successfully. Khadartsev tries to free his leg and advance position but Panda is retaining full guard.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Full Time Panda seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Khadartsev throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Khadartsev scores with a hook. Panda just misses with a punch to the body.
Khadartsev connects with a looping right hand.
Panda looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Khadartsev blocking the ground and pound attempt from Panda. Panda seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Khadartsev trying to control but Panda postures up.
Panda throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Khadartsev actively working from the bottom here. Khadartsev moves into full guard.
Khadartsev pushes a forearm under Panda's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Panda is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
