PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dand Prem (ranked 5385 p4p, 127 weight class) and Ewart Soso (ranked 5388 p4p, 125 weight class). Dand Prem has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Dand Prem!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ewart Soso!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Roosa Järviläinen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Soso fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Soso dives in and grabs Prem's left leg, looking for a takedown. Prem pushes down on Soso's head and hops out.
Prem shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Soso sprawls well. Soso wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Prem gets slowly back to his feet.

Dand Prem has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ewart Soso.
Prem looks to land a combination but Soso avoids it well.
Soso shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Prem walks into a straight right hand from Soso.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Prem misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Soso.
Soso tries to pull guard but Prem won't allow it.
Prem lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Soso or not.

Soso takes a shot to the head.

Prem ties up his opponent against the ropes and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Prem no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Prem controls Soso momentarily but Soso frees himself.
Prem is adopting a defensive guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Prem is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Prem throwing shots but Soso is blocking nicely.
Soso tries to kick Prem off but Prem keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Prem wants to control but Soso is keeping him busy.
Prem seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Prem not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Soso missing with punches from the bottom.

Prem is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Soso has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Prem is working away from the top position though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Soso is staying active underneath Prem, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Soso takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Prem has managed to clinch.
Soso misses with a knee strike.
Prem misses with a body punch.
Soso wants to stall.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Soso throws an elbow that misses.
Prem has Soso pressed against the ropes, preventing Soso from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Prem tries to pull guard but Soso won't allow it.
Soso has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Prem avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Soso wants to break the clinch but can't.
Soso managing to block the knees to the body from Prem.
Prem is trying to maintain a safe position but Soso gets an underhook and turns Prem into the ropes.
Prem jumps guard but Soso stands there with Prem around his waist. Prem gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Prem manages to break the clinch.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Soso throws a head kick that misses.

Prem moves into the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dand Prem dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Prem closes the distance and clinches up with Soso, looking for a takedown. Prem pushes Soso against the ropes but Soso circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Prem tries for a takedown but Soso sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Prem misses with a takedown attempt - Soso sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dand Prem. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Soso throws a head kick that misses.
Soso uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Prem has time to react.
Soso tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Prem defends well and Soso ends up having to push Prem into the ropes where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Prem takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Soso shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Prem as he avoids it easily.

A nice side step and Soso releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

Prem clinches.

Soso can't get the takedown.

Soso breaks the clinch.
Soso tries for a takedown but Prem sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Soso is breathing heavily.
Prem throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Soso's waist but Soso gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Prem off to one side.
Prem misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Soso.
Soso looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
No luck for Prem with that takedown attempt.
Prem looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Prem lands with a slapping head kick.
Soso shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Prem pinned against the ropes. Prem gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Soso throws a sloppy head kick and Prem moves out of range easily.
Prem looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Soso is fending him off so far but Prem persists. Nope, Soso circles away and we're back to standing.
Despite the aggression on Soso's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Soso throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Prem.
Soso throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Soso tries to clinch up but Prem circles away and keeps his distance.
Soso throws a head kick but Prem moves out of range.
Prem doesn't manage to clinch there - Soso circles away.
Prem darts in looking for a takedown but Soso gets double underhooks and turns Prem into the ropes.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Soso.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
No luck for Prem with that takedown attempt.
Soso scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Prem doesn't seem bothered though.

Soso defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Prem.
Soso dives in and grabs Prem's left leg, looking for a takedown. Prem pushes down on Soso's head and hops out.

Prem instigates a clinch.

Prem manages to pull guard.
Prem keeping full guard, as Soso tries to pass.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Prem wants to sweep but no luck.
Prem seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Soso is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Prem is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Prem utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ewart Soso showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Prem with a lazy takedown attempt

and Soso holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Prem is trying to pull guard but Soso has him pressed against the ropes.

Soso manages to break the clinch.
Soso misses with a head kick.
Soso fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Prem avoids it really well and circles away.
Prem tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Soso swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dand Prem. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Prem closes the distance but Soso moves to the side

and Soso counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Prem manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the ropes.

Prem gets control of Soso's arms and successfully pulls guard. Prem will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Soso wants to control from the top but Prem keeps moving.
Dand Prem overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Prem trying to keep a closed guard but Soso is proving a slippery customer.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Soso wants to control from the top but Prem keeps moving.
Soso trying to stand up but can't free himself from Prem's guard.
Soso postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Soso stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Prem swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Prem shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Soso defends it nicely.
Prem takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Soso throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Soso misses with a head kick.
Prem half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Prem instigates a clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Soso stops a takedown attempt from Prem.
Prem jumps guard but Soso stands there with Prem around his waist. Prem gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Prem is trying to drag Soso to the mat but Soso just about manages to keep his footing. He used the ropes to his advantage there.

Soso's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Soso moves into the clinch.
Soso is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Prem is working for takedown but Soso is calmly controlling the position for now.
Prem is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the ropes enables Soso to keep the fight standing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Soso pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Prem tries to close the distance and clinch but Soso swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Soso lands with a slapping head kick.
Soso fails with an attempt to clinch.
Soso shoots in looking for a takedown. Prem tries to sprawl out of it but Soso keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Prem manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Prem is looking to counter the offense by Soso and move into the clinch.
Soso throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Prem's waist but Prem gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Soso off to one side.
Prem goes for a double leg but Soso avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the ropes as Soso continues to drive forward.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Soso misses with a few strikes there.

and Soso counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Soso.

And that's the end of the fight!

I think Soso has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
