The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carter misses with a jab, cross combination.
Thompson avoids a punch combination nicely.
Carter tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Thompson swivels and escapes.
Carter throws a right hand that Thompson ducks under and follows up with a left that Thompson also avoids with ease.
No joy there for Carter, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Carter is breathing heavily.
Thompson avoids a punch combination nicely.
Excellent takedown into side control there by Thompson.
Thompson misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Thompson is trying to get an arm triangle but Carter is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Carter seems a little lost for a moment, as Thompson dominates the positioning.

Thompson sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Carter is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Thompson tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Thompson has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Thompson is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Carter has escaped the position, nice work there.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Thompson is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Carter looks calm but he's in trouble here. Thompson gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Carter is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Thompson lets go of the hold and Carter can pop his arm back in it's socket.
