PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Max Drax (ranked 4873 p4p, 141 weight class) and Mantis Toboggan (ranked 4938 p4p, 142 weight class). Toboggan has chosen I Like Life at Paddy's Pub as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Max Drax! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mantis Toboggan! The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Frank Dennis and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Toboggan avoids the body shot from Drax.
Horrible takedown attempt by Toboggan or perhaps it was just good defense by Drax, which made it look bad. Toboggan is looking to score with low kicks. Drax lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Drax scores with the left hand. Toboggan knows he should have avoided that one.
It looks like Mantis Toboggan has been cut. Toboggan takes a shot right to the bread basket. Toboggan shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Drax manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Toboggan looks winded! Drax looking to hit a scissor sweep but Toboggan is one step ahead there. Drax pulls Toboggan in to control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Drax keeping moving, preventing Toboggan from controlling successfully. Drax knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Toboggan on the ground. Drax looking for a sweep. Not yet Drax, not yet. Drax looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Toboggan passes into half guard.
Drax is looking to improve his position.
Drax has his hands clasped together around Toboggan's back. He's all about the action.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Toboggan in particular looking to stall. It looks like Toboggan might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Drax manages to get to full guard.
Drax is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Toboggan advances position into side control! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Drax taking a bit of punishment here - Toboggan scoring with strikes. Drax regains half guard. Drax trying to control from the bottom.
Drax has his hands clasped together around Toboggan's back. He's all about the action. Toboggan sitting and controlling from the half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Toboggan passes the guard and advances to mount! Toboggan wants to finish this one by submission but Drax is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Toboggan. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Toboggan working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Mantis Toboggan will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Mantis Toboggan's cut. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Drax scores with a sloppy right hand. Toboggan should have avoided that one. Toboggan is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Drax's half guard. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Toboggan in particular looking to stall. Toboggan is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Drax is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
