PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kam Lewis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ross Pearce (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Kam Lewis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Ross Pearce!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, James Glass and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pearce tries to clinch up but Lewis circles away and keeps his distance.

Lewis feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Pearce looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Pearce throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

Lewis avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Lewis stopping the sweep attempt from Pearce.
Lewis advances position into side control!
Pearce tries to bench press Lewis off him but Lewis keeps the position.

Lewis is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Pearce knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Pearce is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Lewis's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Pearce looks like he's trying to stand up.
Lewis moves nicely into side control.
Lewis trying to control the position but Pearce is working away.
Pearce is pushing Lewis's head away, looking to escape. Lewis manages to hold on to the position though.
Lewis has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Pearce working to try and regain half guard.
Pearce looks gassed!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Lewis looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Pearce is desperately trying to improve his position but Lewis has a good base and remains in mount.
Pearce is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Lewis is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Pearce can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Lewis is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Pearce has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Pearce!

Lewis working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pearce doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pearce manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Pearce wanted to stand there but Lewis had control of the position.
Lewis wants to stand up but Pearce is controlling him.
Lewis trying to keep a closed guard but Pearce is proving a slippery customer.
Lewis is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Lewis moves into full mount! Pearce won't be happy about that!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Pearce tries to lock up and control but Lewis gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Lewis looking to finish Pearce with some ground and pound. This is bad for Pearce!
Lewis trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Pearce is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Pearce is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Pearce really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kam Lewis dominated that round.

A slapping leg kick lands for Lewis.

Lewis gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Lewis tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Pearce tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Lewis smiles and moves away.

Lewis fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Pearce sprawls well initially but Lewis persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Lewis wants to stand but Pearce has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pearce wants to improve his position but Lewis is controlling well.
Lewis prevents Pearce from standing back up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Pearce manages to get to full guard.
Lewis postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Lewis trying to control the position from guard on top but Pearce is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Pearce is looking to stand up but Lewis isn't so interested in that idea.
Pearce wants to sweep but no luck.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Lewis closes this distance looking for a takedown but Pearce circles away.
Danga de danga de dang - Pearce scores with a four punch combination!
Lewis tries to clinch there but Pearce circles away.
Lewis shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Pearce pinned against the cage. Pearce gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Pearce fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Lewis manages to avoid it.
Pearce works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Pearce throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Lewis.
Kam Lewis is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Nice takedown defense from Pearce. No joy for Lewis on that attempt.
Horrible takedown by Lewis or perhaps it was just good defense by Pearce which made him look bad.
Pearce lands with an uppercut that bounces Lewis off the cage and back into rage.
Lewis swats away the attempt to clinch by Pearce.
Lewis shoots for a takedown but Pearce saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Lewis shoots in and drives through. Pearce sprawls well.

Pearce throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Lewis shoots in but no luck this time.
Pearce lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Lewis on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Pearce. Pearce obviously looking to wear him down.

Pearce throws a jab but it's blocked by Lewis.
A punch combination from Pearce misses.
Pearce wants to clinch.

Pearce tries to keep at a distance but Lewis has taken the fight into the clinch.
Lewis tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Pearce is trying to break free.

Pearce escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Lewis looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Pearce is fending him off so far but Lewis persists. Nope, Pearce circles away and we're back to standing.
Pearce looks to land a combination. Lewis sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Pearce keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Pearce closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Pearce stuffs the takedown.

Pearce changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Lewis looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Pearce trying to control the action but Lewis is working from the bottom.
Lewis manages to get back to half guard.
Pearce is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Lewis!

Ross Pearce showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

and Pearce counters with a three punch combo that has Lewis backing up. Lewis nods at Pearce to acknowledge the strikes.
Pearce throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Lewis shoots in for a double leg but Pearce sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Pearce fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Horrible takedown by Lewis or perhaps it was just good defense by Pearce which made him look bad.

Lewis decides to stand back up.
Lewis ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Lewis throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Pearce's waist but Pearce gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Lewis off to one side.
Pearce tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Lewis counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Pearce throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Pearce drops down looking for an ankle pick but Lewis pulls his leg out and moves away.
Pearce tries to clinch but Lewis is having none of it.
Lewis slips a jab and a cross from Pearce.
Horrible takedown by Lewis or perhaps it was just good defense by Pearce which made him look bad.
No luck for Lewis with that takedown attempt.

Pearce scores with a one two! Lewis had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Pearce looks to land a combination but Lewis avoids it well.

Pearce gets caught flat footed, as Lewis shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Lewis passes into half guard.
Lewis prevents Pearce from standing back up.

Pearce looking for submissions off his back.
Pearce wants to get back to his feet.
Pearce really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lewis. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Lewis passes into side control, despite Pearce's attempt to control the position.

Lewis is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Pearce is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Lewis tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Pearce.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Lewis wants to take a breather but Pearce is having none of it.
Pearce wants to get back to his feet.
Pearce pushes Lewis off but Lewis dives into side control.
Lewis wants to control but Pearce is keeping him busy.
Lewis has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Pearce is wriggling around trying to escape.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kam Lewis showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Lewis has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
