Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rashid Rubson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Tom Bennett! The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, David Hoff and Dirk Anderson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rubson shoots in for a takedown but Bennett shows good takedown defense. Rubson gets caught napping as Bennett dives in and scores a takedown. Rubson manages to retain guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bennett trying to control the position from guard on top but Rubson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Rubson on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Rubson tries to get out of the position. Bennett slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Bennett wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Rubson, who protects the arm well. Rubson is looking for a sweep. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bennett is trying to move to mount but Rubson reverses beautifully and ends up in Bennett's guard. Bennett had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Rubson defends it easily. Bennett keeping moving, preventing Rubson from controlling successfully.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bennett has his foot on Rubson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rubson works his way back into a safe position though. Rubson trying to control but Bennett is working from the bottom. Rubson has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Rubson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Bennett has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Rubson has managed to get both his arms back between Bennett's legs - danger averted. Rubson trying to control but Bennett is working from the bottom. Rubson working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Bennett is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Rubson defends well. Bennett looking for a triangle here. Rubson is fighting it but it looks tight! Bennett pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Rubson is tapping out - this one is all over!
