PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tim Pierno (ranked 14649 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cliff Rigano (ranked 2740 p4p, 0 weight class). Pierno's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Sick Puppies - You're Going Down . Pierno is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Cliff Rigano enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 38 - 33 - 2, fighting out of Helsinki, Tim Pierno!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 27 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Cliff Rigano!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Matti Vanhoillinen and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pierno misses with a wild body shot.
Pierno is breathing heavily.
Rigano has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Rigano there as he acknowledges the shot.

Rigano throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Pierno was covering up waiting for the punch and Rigano finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Rigano is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rigano wants to pass the guard but Pierno is keeping the position.
Rigano loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Rigano shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Rigano is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Rigano wants to pass the guard but Pierno is defending well.
Pierno is looking to escape.

Rigano lands with a punch from half guard.
Rigano thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Rigano is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Pierno sees it coming and defends easily.

Rigano is looking to take a break and control but Pierno is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Rigano looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Pierno with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Rigano wants to lay and pray for a moment but Pierno keeps working.
Rigano is nestled in close to Pierno, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Rigano is pressing down on Pierno's thigh, looking to free his foot. Pierno is holding on for now.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cliff Rigano dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Rigano darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Rigano wants to take a breather but Pierno is having none of it.

Pierno is not content to let Rigano control the position.

Rigano wants to pass the guard but Pierno is defending well.
Pierno tries to kick Rigano off but Rigano keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Rigano in particular looking to stall.

Pierno is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Rigano scores with a couple of nice shots.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Rigano is keen to just control but Pierno is a slippery customer.
Rigano prevents Pierno from standing back up.
Rigano working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Cliff Rigano has got the better of the ground game so far.
Rigano not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Rigano looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Rigano works his foot free and advances to mount.

Pierno is squirming around, avoiding Rigano's attempts to control the action.

Rigano has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Rigano scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Pierno?
Rigano tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Rigano pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.


Pierno is rocked!

Oh Pierno is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Rigano connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Rigano postures up and throws a massive shot that knocks Pierno out cold! Two more strikes to his unconscious opponent for good luck and this one is all over! Rigano goes absolutely crazy with his corner! Wow, you can see how much that win means to him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:32 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Cliff Rigano!
