Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vitor Rosseti! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Phillip Merki! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Daniel Franklin and Chris Downing.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Merki is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Rosseti's half guard. Merki looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Merki blocks the strikes from Rosseti.
Merki looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Rosseti is in trouble now - Merki has advanced to mount! Merki wants to take Rosseti's back but he can't do it this time. Merki has hold of Rosseti's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Rosseti manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Merki jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Rosseti manages to avoid the submission attempt. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Merki tries to advance to mount but can't. Rosseti is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Merki is trying to move to mount but Rosseti reverses beautifully and ends up in Merki's guard. Merki looking for a guillotine here but Rosseti defends easily.

He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rosseti can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Rosseti avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Merki has his foot on Rosseti's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rosseti works his way back into a safe position though.

Rosseti manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Merki looking for a guillotine here but Rosseti defends easily.

Merki escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Rosseti gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Merki had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Rosseti is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Merki Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Rosseti's back instead. Rosseti rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Rosseti is in trouble now - Merki has advanced to mount! Merki looking for a guillotine from mount but Rosseti is having none of it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
