Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Scott Hill! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jacob Spirit! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Alan Glass and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Spirit fails to land the takedown. Hill ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. A shot to the liver by Hill. Beautiful body shot. Spirit gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Hill engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Hill pushes down on Spirit's leg and manages to get into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Spirit is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Hill scores with a couple of nice shots. Spirit throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Hill has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Hill is trying to control the action in half guard but Spirit is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Hill works his way into side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hill cracks Spirit with a big elbow. Hill controls the position. We've been hearing good reports from Hill's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Hill landing strikes. Hill has an Americana. Spirit didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Hill is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Hill hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:39 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Scott Hill! Our winner, Scott Hill, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans. Jacob Spirit spoke after the fight, saying 'sorry '.
