Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
14 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Murhaa! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
21 - 17 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tony Monteiro! The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Paul Tew and Steven Brown.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Murhaa tries to grapple but his opponent circles enabling Monteiro to counter with a crisp jab.
It looks like Mike Murhaa has been cut. A telegraphed right hand from Murhaa misses the target. Murhaa moves into the clinch successfully.
Monteiro misses with a short punch on the inside. Murhaa tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked. Murhaa lands a nice uppercut. Monteiro misses with a short punch on the inside. Murhaa tries to work over Monteiro's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Monteiro blocks an uppercut.
Monteiro throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Murhaas head. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Murhaa lands a left hand that snaps the head of Monteiro backwards. Monteiro's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Murhaa shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Monteiro counters with a left hand that sends Murhaa to the canvas!
Murhaa is rocked! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Monteiro trying to stand up but can't free himself from Murhaa's guard. Oh Murhaa is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Murhaa is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Murhaa seems to have got his legs back now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Monteiro would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Murhaa is pulling down on Monteiro's head to control his posture. Monteiro has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Murhaa is proving hard to escape from. Monteiro won't allow Murhaa to sweep him here. Murhaa has Monteiro pulled in close to control his posture. Monteiro is looking to stand up but Murhaa won't let him. Murhaa looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Tony Monteiro is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Murhaa pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Murhaa cracks Monteiro with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. Murhaa misses with a hook to the body
and Monteiro rattles Murhaa with a well-timed uppercut counter. - Murhaa tries to back away and recover but his hands are down low and he gets tagged again, sending him stumbling down to the canvas. Monteiro dives in after him and quickly finishes the job with a trio of brutal punches, leaving Murhaa stiff and motionless on the mat!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Tony Monteiro! After winning the bout, Tony Monteiro thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
