Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Christian Steggman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yamada Taiki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Yamada Taiki told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Christian Steggman! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Steggman takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Yamada Taiki seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Taiki throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. A head kick misses from Steggman. Steggman shoots for a double leg takedown but Taiki sprawls well. He's pushed Steggman's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Taiki tries to clinch but Steggman moves out of range. Steggman keeps the fight on the outside. Taiki getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Taiki throws a head kick but Steggman moves out of range.
Steggman feints and as Taiki raises his hands in defense, Steggman changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Taiki utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Taiki is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Steggman throwing strikes from guard but Taiki blocks nicely. Steggman has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Steggman accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Steggman drops back looking for a leg! Taiki is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Taiki manages to kick Steggman off! Steggman jumps back into Taiki's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Steggman thows a big elbow that misses. Steggman throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Taiki works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Taiki utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Taiki tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Taiki throws a sloppy head kick and Steggman moves out of range easily. Taiki throws a sloppy head kick and Steggman counters with a shoot takedown. Taiki fights it but they end up in guard. Steggman throwing strikes but missing. Taiki looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Taiki really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Steggman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Taiki working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Steggman.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Steggman wants to control from the top but Taiki keeps moving. Steggman missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Steggman loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Steggman stops Taiki from standing up. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Taiki can do anything to dispel that myth.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Some wild striking there from Taiki.
Taiki throws a head kick but Steggman moves out of range.
Steggman shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Taiki pinned against the cage. Taiki gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Taiki closes the distance looking to clinch and Steggman counters with a stiff right hand.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Taiki tries to clinch but fails miserably and Steggman decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Taiki's guard. Taiki controlling Steggman's posture. Taiki wants to sweep but no luck. Steggman wants to control from the top but Taiki keeps moving. Steggman pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Taiki is keeping the position for now. Taiki wants to get back to his feet but Steggman is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Steggman loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Steggman trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Taiki scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Taiki throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land. Steggman fails miserably with a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Christian Steggman. That's going to take a lot out of him. Taiki misses with a head kick.
Taiki closes the distance but Steggman moves to the side and Steggman counters with a head kick. Taiki tries to clinch so Steggman counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Steggman accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Steggman won't allow Taiki to get back to his feet. Steggman trying to control the position from guard on top but Taiki is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Christian Steggman dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
A head kick misses from Taiki. Steggman misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Taiki gets off balance looking for a body kick and Steggman counters with a takedown into side control. Steggman working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Steggman tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. Taiki wants to control but Steggman postures up. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Steggman goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Taiki has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Steggman but great work by Taiki. Steggman tries to improve position but can't. Taiki decides to stand back up. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Taiki clinches but Steggman breaks the clinch and Steggman counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Taiki!
That's one minute gone in the round. A nice elbow there by Steggman. Steggman trying to control but Taiki is having none of it. Steggman raining down shots from the mount! Steggman landing shots from mount. Steggman throwing strikes here but Taiki is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Steggman avoids the attempt from Taiki to control. Steggman lands with some strikes.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Steggman swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Taiki is now in Steggman's guard. A big mistake from Steggman there, giving up the dominant position! Steggman looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Taiki puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Taiki tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Steggman. Steggman regains full guard. Nicely done. Taiki stopping the sweep attempt from Steggman. Taiki tries to stand but Steggman is controlling from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Taiki must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Steggman wants to sweep here but Taiki controlling him for the moment.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Steggman drives through with a takedown into guard. Taiki pushes Steggman off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there. Taiki closes the distance looking to clinch and Steggman counters with a shoot takedown. Taiki fights it but they end up in guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Taiki wants to get back to his feet but Steggman is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Steggman is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Taiki looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Steggman trying to control but Taiki is working from the bottom. Steggman connects with a couple of short punches. Steggman sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Taiki's guard. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Taiki is trying to stand.

A punch combination from Taiki misses. Steggman steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Taiki. Taiki is looking to clinch but Steggman is avoiding it.
Taiki wants to clinch and Steggman counters with a takedown into side control. Taiki is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Taiki gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Taiki trying to control but Steggman postures up.

Taiki has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Steggman is working away from the top position though. Taiki is trying to stand back up but Steggman is controlling him
Taiki takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Steggman trying to mount his opponent but Taiki defends it. Steggman scoring with strikes to the body and head. Christian Steggman overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Ground and pound from Steggman. Taiki pushes Steggman off looking to stand but Steggman dives back in and keeps control.

Taiki throws a lazy head kick and Steggman counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Taiki wants to get back to full guard. Yamada Taiki has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Taiki is not content to let Steggman control the position. Steggman wants to pass to mount but Taiki is defending the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Steggman is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Taiki doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Steggman. Taiki is trying to stand.
Taiki is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Steggman is trying to work for a kimura but Taiki is defending well.
Taiki is looking for a sweep. Steggman is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Taiki is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Steggman is looking to work some ground and pound but Taiki has wrist control. Steggman throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Steggman prevents Taiki from getting back to his feet. Taiki looking to control.
Taiki is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Steggman dives into side control.
Christian Steggman is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Steggman wants to control but Taiki is keeping him busy.
And that's the end of the fight! Christian Steggman showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Steggman, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
