PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Snapple Grapple (ranked 5304 p4p, 374 weight class) and Joshua Alexander (ranked 6450 p4p, 399 weight class). Alexander comes into a darkened arena with his song building. The pump kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Joshua Alexander is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Joshua Alexander!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Alan Glass and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alexander throws a hook but Grapple avoids it easily.
Grapple is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Snapple Grapple seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Grapple swinging wildly here.

Grapple feints and as Alexander raises his hands in defense, Grapple changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Grapple showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Alexander can't keep his opponent in guard - Grapple advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Well, if Grapple is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Alexander makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Alexander.
Grapple is stalling in the full guard.
Alexander is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Grapple throws a leg kick that misses.

Grapple shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Grapple was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Grapple tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Grapple tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Grapple has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Alexander can't do much from the bottom here.
Grapple is putting a hurting on Alexander here, landing some big shots from side control.
Grapple in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Alexander is looking to regain half guard here but Grapple keeps moving and retains side control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Alexander is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Grapple is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Grapple fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Alexander sprawls well initially but Grapple persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Snapple Grapple overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Grapple decides to stand back up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Grapple tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Alexander manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Grapple shoots in and bounces Alexander off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Grapple drops back looking for a leg! Alexander is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Alexander manages to kick Grapple off! Grapple jumps back into Alexander's guard.
Grapple is stalling in the full guard.

Grapple is nestled in close to Alexander, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Grapple lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Alexander is trying to get back to full guard.

Alexander has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Grapple is working away from the top position though.

Grapple seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Grapple is controlling the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Grapple throws a shot from downtown. Alexander moves away and avoids it.
Alexander throws a lazy right hand but Grapple sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Grapple manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Alexander on his heels. He'll look to pass Alexander's guard now, I'm sure.

Snapple Grapple is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Alexander looking to hit a scissor sweep but Grapple is one step ahead there.
Grapple stays in close to Alexander's body and controls the position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Alexander controls Grapple momentarily but Grapple frees himself.
Grapple slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Alexander is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Joshua Alexander has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Snapple Grapple showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Grapple, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
