Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ty Trigg! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brandon Johnson! The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, John Kavanagh and Joseph Jones.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Decent striking displayed by Trigg there.
It looks like Brandon Johnson has been cut. Trigg lands a lovely overhand right. Johnson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Trigg throws a right hand that misses
so Johnson counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Johnson trying to control the position from guard on top but Trigg is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Johnson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Johnson stays in close to Trigg's body and controls the position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Johnson's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
That's one minute gone in the round. Trigg working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Johnson. Johnson passes Trigg's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Well, if Johnson is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Trigg avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Johnson. Johnson looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Johnson is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Johnson working Trigg over with strikes. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Johnson is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Johnson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Trigg keeps working. Johnson missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Johnson controlling the pace. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Johnson not landing any meaningful shots this time.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Trigg throws out a loose jab but Johnson uses good head movement to avoid it. Trigg connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. The fighters circle momentarily. Trigg darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Johnson displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Trigg throws out the jab. Trigg bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Johnson is rocked!
That has opened up Brandon Johnson's cut even more. Trigg circles away before darting back in with a big straight right hand. It connects beautifully and sends Johnson tumbling to the canvas! He's out cold! Trigg wins by KO!
