PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mike Charles (ranked 1214 p4p, 145 weight class) and Dvornoy Alkash (ranked 2286 p4p, 233 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Charles might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Renegades Of Funk - Rage Against The Machine. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mike Charles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dvornoy Alkash!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Daniel Franklin and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alkash throws a right and a left that Charles avoids nicely.
Alkash takes a jab right on the kisser.
Charles throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Nice defenses there by Alkash.
Alkash throws a sloppy head kick and Charles moves out of range easily.
Charles throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Charles is looking to slow Alkash down with leg kicks.
Charles turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Alkash pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Alkash misses with a left hand

and Charles counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Charles won't allow Alkash to sweep him here.
Charles trying to control but Alkash is working from the bottom.

Alkash has his foot on Charles's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Charles works his way back into a safe position though.
Alkash is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Charles cracks Alkash with a solid left hand.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Charles trying to control the position from guard on top but Alkash is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Charles lands a couple of digs.

Alkash is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Charles defends well.
Alkash looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Charles got a little sloppy there for a moment and Alkash has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Charles has managed to get both his arms back between Alkash's legs - danger averted.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Charles stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Alkash swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Charles cracks Alkash with a solid left hand.
Alkash trying to keep a closed guard but Charles is proving a slippery customer.
Alkash is trying to hold Charles in close to prevent damage but Charles has managed to pass into half guard.
Alkash felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Charles is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Alkash tries to hold on but Charles pushes him away.
Alkash keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Charles avoids the attempt from Alkash to control.
Alkash sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Alkash tries to get to full guard but Charles has control of the leg.
Alkash on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Charles looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Alkash tries to kick Charles off but Charles keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Charles is working for a submission of some sort.
Alkash blocking the ground and pound attempt from Charles.

Charles is keen to just control but Alkash is a slippery customer.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Alkash pushes Charles off looking to stand but Charles dives back in and keeps control.
Alkash is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Charles's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Charles's back!
Charles wants to escape the position.

Charles defending nicely against the rear naked choke attempt.
Alkash wants to control the position but Charles frees himself and scrambles - Alkash manages to regain control in side control.

Alkash decides to stand back up. Alkash steps back and let's Charles get back to his feet.
Charles will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Charles shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Alkash napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Charles wants to control but Alkash is keeping him busy.
Alkash is looking to reverse the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Charles dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Alkash misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Alkash throws a hook but Charles avoids it easily.

Alkash gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Charles has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Alkash to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Charles is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Alkash pulls down on the head and he's put Charles to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:54 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Dvornoy Alkash!
