Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jolly Roger (ranked 3553 p4p, 385 weight class) and John Sullivan (ranked 3086 p4p, 347 weight class). Roger kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Under Jolly Roger. Sullivan has chosen The Hand of John L. Sullivan as his entrance music. Jolly Roger could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to John Sullivan's chin.

4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Sullivan! The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Dmitry Maklakov and Valeri Chadov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sullivan tests Roger's chin there with a solid looking shot. A telegraphed right hand from Roger misses the target. Sullivan looks to score with a jab to the body but Roger is just out of range. Sullivan with a body punch. A glancing blow. Sullivan will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Roger throws a body punch but Sullivan moves out of range. Sullivan displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Roger. Sullivan ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Sullivan lands a glancing blow to the side of Roger's head. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Roger. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Roger clinches up against the cage. Sullivan working hard to break the clinch. Roger lands a hook that snaps the head of Sullivan backwards. Roger misses with the head strike.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sullivan pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Roger takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. No luck for Roger with that takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jolly Roger. That's going to take a lot out of him. Sullivan scores with a shot to the body.
Sullivan throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Roger half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Sullivan lands a glancing blow to the side of Roger's head. Sullivan is looking to clinch but Roger is avoiding it.
Roger takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Sullivan connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Sullivan has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Roger is landing a low percentage of strikes. Sullivan lands with a shot to the body. Sullivan fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. This has been an exciting period of action! Sullivan fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Sullivan lands a nice hook to Roger's body. Roger takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Roger throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Sullivan tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Roger is in Sullivan's guard. Roger trying to control but Sullivan is working from the bottom. Roger missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Roger trying to control the position from guard on top but Sullivan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Roger with a flurry of punches that miss. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Sullivan tries to land a sweep but no joy. Roger stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sullivan swivels though and keeps the full guard. Roger with a nice head shot there. Sullivan keeping moving, preventing Roger from controlling successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sullivan trying to keep a closed guard but Roger is proving a slippery customer.
Roger wants to control from the top but Sullivan keeps moving. Sullivan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Roger. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Roger stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sullivan swivels though and keeps the full guard. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Roger throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Sullivan works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Roger has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Roger passes into half guard. We've been hearing that Roger has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish. Roger is working for a kimura but Sullivan is defending it quite comfortably.
Sullivan wants to improve his position but Roger is controlling well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Roger is trying to work for a kimura but Sullivan is defending well.
Roger thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Roger thows a huge punch but Sullivan dodges it nicely.
Roger seems to be working for a kimura but Sullivan defends the submission attempt. Sullivan is defending against the submission attempts here by Roger.

John Sullivan dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Roger drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Sullivan keeping moving, preventing Roger from controlling successfully. Sullivan working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Roger. Roger trying to control but Sullivan is working from the bottom. Sullivan has been the more effective fighter overall so far. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Jolly Roger overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Roger trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Sullivan controlling Roger's posture.
That's one minute gone in the round. Roger forces his way into half guard. Sullivan blocking the ground and pound attempt from Roger. Roger not landing any meaningful shots this time. Roger wants to pass to mount but Sullivan is defending the position. Roger seems to be looking for submissions.

That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Roger is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Sullivan is just riding it out for now. Roger eventually gives up the hold. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Roger tries to pass the half guard into mount. Sullivan knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Roger is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Roger drops an elbow to the side of Sullivan's head. Roger maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Sullivan could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Roger has cracked it and Sullivan is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Roger!

A very excited looking Jolly Roger made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet.
