Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Todd Wad (ranked 6453 p4p, 505 weight class) and Kelly William (ranked 3312 p4p, 364 weight class). William has a pretty significant injury - he really shouldn't be fighting right now but he's a warrior and he's here none the less! Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Todd Wad!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kelly William!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Chad Campbell and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wad throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
William looks winded!
Wad misses with a takedown attempt - William sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
William goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

Wad clinches up with William and pushes him back against the cage.
Wad tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. William just stands there and leans against the cage.
William is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
William's coach down at whitey's gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on William's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

William breaks from the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wad fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Todd Wad. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A head kick by William misses
and Wad counters with a three punch combo that has William backing up. William nods at Wad to acknowledge the strikes.
Wad swings for the body but William moves out of range.

enabling Wad to counter with a crisp jab.
Wad tries to clinch up
and William counters with a three punch combo that has Wad backing up. Wad nods at William to acknowledge the strikes.
William plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Wad keeps William at a distance using the push kick.
Wad tries to close the distance and clinch up but William swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Wad looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for William!
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Wad is looking to take a break and control but William is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Wad landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Wad trying to control the position but William is working away.
Wad tries to score with some ground and pound. William controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

William is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Wad asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Wad wants to lay and pray for a moment but William keeps working.
Wad is really struggling to control William but he's trying to hold on to the position.
William is trying to buck Wad off.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Wad darts in looking for a takedown but William gets double underhooks and turns Wad into the cage.
Wad ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
The fight stays on the outside here - Wad looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Wad fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Wad.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
William showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Wad.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Todd Wad will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Kelly William seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Wad changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. William tries to avoid it but Wad manages to keep hold of a leg and drag William to the ground. William escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

William throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Wad's head.
Wad wants to clinch but William slips to the side
and William counters with a solid body kick.
William throws a sloppy head kick and Wad moves out of range easily.
William moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
William pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Wad is trying hard to land a takedown here. William sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

William displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Wad.
William throws a head kick that Wad semi-blocks.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
William slaps away a takedown attempt from Wad, before circling back to the center of the mat.
William lands with a kick to the temple. Wad shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Wad shoots in looking for a takedown. William tries to sprawl out of it but Wad keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. William manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
William is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.

Wad tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. William manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
William misses with a head kick.
Wad lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Kelly William seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
William takes a shot right to the bread basket.

Wad pushes William up against the cage in a clinch.
Wad is trying to pull guard but William turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Wad escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Todd Wad is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
William tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
William takes a kick to the side of the head.
William has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Wad dives in and grabs William's left leg, looking for a takedown. William pushes down on Wad's head and hops out.

Wad wants to clinch up but William keeps it at a distance.
As Wad backs off William throws a huge counter combo but Wad manages to avoid it all.
Wad shoots for a takedown but William saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
William raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
No luck for William with that takedown attempt.
It looked like Wad was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Wad sizes up William with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kelly William showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Wad feints and as William raises his hands in defense, Wad changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

William has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Wad off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
William scores with a head kick. Wad tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.

and Wad counters with a nice body shot.

and Wad makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Wad tries for a takedown but William sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
William throws a right and a left that both miss.
A little feinted left hand from Wad on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
A nice inside leg kick there by Wad. That's going to slow William down.
Wad shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts William as he jumps to the side.
William steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Wad.

Wad lands with a slapping head kick.
Wad blocks a head kick by William.
William shoots in for a takedown but Wad shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
William defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Wad.
William misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Wad tries for a takedown but William sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
William tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Wad appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

Kelly William comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think William has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
