Coming up we have a welterweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Patrick Kenzie and Ron Paul. Paul has chosen Revolution as his entrance music. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the welterweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Rio de Janeiro, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 1 losses; Patrick Kenzie! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Hilo, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 0 losses; Ron Paul! The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Radbod Blank and Daniel Blasius.
Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? Paul moves into the clinch. Paul has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Kenzie is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Paul drops down looking for an ankle pick but Kenzie pulls his leg out and moves away.
Paul gets a clinch. Kenzie is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Paul is defending well. Kenzie is pressed up against the cage. Paul has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Kenzie down to the mat. Kenzie avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Patrick Kenzie has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ron Paul. Paul pushes Kenzie up against the cage in a clinch. Kenzie can't get the takedown.
Kenzie is defending well against a takedown attempt. Paul goes for a takedown attempt but Kenzie pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Paul has closed the distance and engaged Kenzie in a clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Paul works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Kenzie has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. That's one minute gone in the round. Kenzie wants to control from the top but Paul keeps moving. Paul trying to control the position here. Kenzie wants to pass the guard but Paul is keeping the position. Kenzie trying to control the position from guard on top but Paul is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Kenzie not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Kenzie won't allow Paul to sweep him here. Kenzie wants to control from the top but Paul keeps moving. Kenzie is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Kenzie has gone for a leg lock! Paul slips out almost immediately though and dives into Kenzie's guard. That's three minutes gone in the round. Paul wants to control from the top but Kenzie keeps moving. Paul tries to free his leg and advance position but Kenzie is retaining full guard. Paul is looking to advance position but Kenzie has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount! He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position. Kenzie takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Kenzie wants to take Paul's back but he can't do it this time. Kenzie looking to control but Paul is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kenzie goes for an armbar but Paul turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Paul. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Kenzie (6) vs (6) Paul Paul wants to pass the guard but Kenzie is keeping the position. Kenzie is pulling down on Paul's head to control his posture. Paul must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Paul trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Kenzie will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Kenzie keeping moving, preventing Paul from controlling successfully. Paul advances to half guard. Kenzie slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Kenzie keeping full guard, as Paul tries to pass. Paul passes into half guard. Kenzie is not content to let Paul control the position.

Paul is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

That's eight minutes gone in the round. Paul is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Paul wants to pass to mount but Kenzie is defending the position. Kenzie is defending against the submission attempts here by Paul.

That's nine minutes gone in the round. Paul tries to pass the half guard into mount. Kenzie knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Kenzie tries to roll over but Paul keeps him under control. Paul working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Kenzie's thigh. Kenzie counters though and makes it back to full guard. Paul looking to pass the guard. Kenzie looking to sweep here. No luck so far. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kenzie is working hard here to advance position.
That's ten minutes gone in the round. Paul stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kenzie swivels though and keeps the full guard. Kenzie is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Paul looking to sit in guard and control but Kenzie gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Kenzie (8) vs (9) Paul Kenzie controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Kenzie looking to pass the guard. That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Paul stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kenzie swivels though and keeps the full guard. Kenzie controlling Paul's posture. Paul passes easily into side control. Nice work. Score +3 for passing guard: Kenzie (8) vs (14) Paul Paul tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Paul has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Kenzie is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Paul is looking to take a break and control but Kenzie is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. You can see the frustration on Kenzie's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Kenzie tries to buck Paul off but Paul is having none of it. Kenzie is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Paul's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Paul trying to pass the guard but Kenzie defending well. Paul is working for an americana but Kenzie has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Paul was thinking about the submission. Paul has gone for a leg lock! Kenzie wants to take his opponent's back but Paul doesn't allow it. Kenzie takes Paul's back. Score +3 for taking back: Kenzie (16) vs (14) Paul Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Paul trying to control the hands but Kenzie won't let him. Paul is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Kenzie gets his way!
