Thomson tries for a takedown but Murometz manages to get underhooks.
#BC# Murometz breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Thomson tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Murometz connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.#TD# Murometz shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Murometz was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! A control attempt from Thomson but he's now mounted! Murometz will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Thomson tries to lock up and control but Murometz gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Murometz content just to control the position here. #T1# Murometz lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Thomson hang on? Thomson squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.

Murometz has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Murometz sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Murometz avoids the attempt from Thomson to control. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Murometz slips an arm under Thomson chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Murometz has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Murometz is squeezing on Thomson like an anaconda would it's prey. Thomson fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Ilya Murometz! Ilya Murometz decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.

#R1##TD# Murometz shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Thomson is trying to defend but Murometz finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Murometz in particular looking to stall.#SU# Murometz stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being. Thomson misses with a kick to the body #TD# and Murometz counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Murometz. Murometz slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Murometz in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Murometz is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Thomson not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Murometz tries to stand and escape but Thomson is controlling the position. Murometz really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Thomson wants to improve his position but Murometz is controlling well.
