Sloppy strikes from Padilla. Those never looked like landing. #TD2# Burns looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Padilla wants to stand back up but Burns manages to pass into side control.
Padilla is not content to let Burns control the position. Padilla tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Burns wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Burns wants to control but Padilla is keeping him busy. Padilla tries to buck Burns off but Burns is having none of it.#T1##SUB2# Burns is trying to get an arm triangle but Padilla is defending well. Padilla manages to get back to half guard. Padilla is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Burns's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Burns's back! I would not like to be Burns right now.
Padilla seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Burns for as long as he can get away with. Burns can't escape the position.
#T2# Burns looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment. Padilla slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Padilla wants to pass the guard but Burns is defending well. Burns is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Padilla's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Padilla's back! Burns tries to get the hooks in deep but Padilla pushed the leg off. Burns working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Padilla. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Nero Padilla dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Padilla on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nero Padilla. That's going to take a lot out of him. Burns lands a right hand that snaps the head of Padilla backwards. Burns misses with a hook from the clinch. Padilla jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Burns walks away with a smile on his face. Padilla gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Burns fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Padilla manages to avoid it. Burns cracks Padilla with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Brian Burns seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Burns avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Burns throws the kick towards the body but Padilla avoids it. Padilla ducks under a wild hook from Burns.#TD2# Burns feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Burns stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Padilla swivels though and keeps the full guard. No, Burns has managed to get both his arms back between Padilla's legs - danger averted. Burns won't allow Padilla to get back to his feet. Burns passes easily into side control. Nice work. Padilla is trying to control Burns's posture but Burns avoids it. #T4# Padilla is not content to let Burns control the position. The referee asks Burns politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Burns prefers to stall for the moment though. Padilla tries to strike but it doesn't land. Padilla is trying to improve his position. Padilla wants to control but Burns postures up. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Burns wants to lay and pray for a moment but Padilla keeps working.

No damage this time. Padilla advances position into side control! Padilla taking a breather here. Anthriel sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Padilla is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard. Padilla slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Anthriel preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. #T1# Padilla not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Anthriel tries to land a sweep but no joy. Padilla controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Anthriel controlling Padilla's posture. #T2# Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Padilla slips nicely into half guard. Padilla sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. #R1# Smith stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Smith wants it to stay on the feet. Smith on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Smith scores with a crisp jab that stopped Padilla in his tracks. Smith pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Padilla moves out of range as Smith strikes. Smith misses with a hook. Padilla drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Smith defends it well.#CL2# Padilla fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Smith, pushing him back against the cage.#BC# Smith manages to break the clinch.
