Roman lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.#REVB# Roman controlling from the top position. Roman passes easily into side control. Nice work. Roman working the head and body with strikes. Azhiev is trying to get back to half guard. Azhiev is working hard here to advance position. Roman controlling from side mount. Roman cracks Azhiev with a big right hand but Azhiev just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Let's hope that Roman has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Roman. Azhiev looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.#CL2# Roman gets a clinch. Azhiev tries to pull guard but Roman holds him up against the cage and eventually Azhiev drops back down to his feet.
Azhiev takes an elbow to the forehead. Azhiev is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Roman to keep the fight standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Anzhor Azhiev. That's going to take a lot out of him. Azhiev tries to pull guard but Roman forces him back to his feet, against the cage. Roman effectively controlling the action here. A right handed body shot lands from Roman.

Valdez shoots in looking for a takedown but Roman manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Valdez's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Valdez on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Roman tries to bum rush Valdez with a series of wild strikes but Valdez uses good footwork to avoid the assault. As Roman tries to get set, Valdez tries to push him back and clinch up but Roman manages to avoid the attempt. Roman throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Valdez looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Roman is fending him off so far but Valdez persists. Nope, Roman circles away and we're back to standing. Horrible takedown attempt by Valdez or perhaps it was just good defense by Roman, which made it look bad.
