Connecticut works over Matatore with some ground and pound from guard. Connecticut postures up in Matatore's guard and throws a big left but Matatore blocks it. Connecticut distracts Matatore with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Connecticut makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Matatore trying to keep a closed guard but Connecticut is proving a slippery customer.

#R1# Horrible takedown attempt by Matatore or perhaps it was just good defense by Rios, which made it look bad. A quick step to the side and Rios tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.#CL2# Rios tries to keep at a distance but Matatore has taken the fight into the clinch. Rios could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Rios is looking to take this one to the mat.#TD# Rios pulls guard. Rios managing to control the position. #SUB# Rios looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rios wants to improve his position but instead Matatore has moved into half guard.
Matatore works his way into side control. Rios can't do much from the bottom here. #T1# Matatore in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time. Oh but Rios is tightening it up a little... Matatore has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Matatore reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Matatore taps out! Nice BJJ there by Rios!

#R1##CL# Phillips closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Matatore is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Matatore managing to block the knees to the body from Phillips.

Phillips tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Matatore's elbow. #TD2# Matatore gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. #ES# Phillips has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Matatore off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. #TD2# Matatore looking for a takedown here - he's got it. The crowd are loving this. Great action here.#ES# Phillips has his feet on Matatore's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet.
