Kanki ducks right into an uppercut from Alvarez. Kanki tries to clinch up but Alvarez circles away and keeps his distance. Alvarez takes a head kick and keeps coming.
A punch combination from Alvarez misses. A right-left combo lands from Kanki. Alvarez lands a nice shot that snaps Kanki's head back.
Alvarez throws a right hand that Kanki ducks under and follows up with a left that Kanki also avoids with ease. Kanki throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Alvarez swinging wildly here.
Alvarez definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Kanki takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

and Kanki counters with a deadly accurate combination that rocks Alvarez badly! He tries to strike back but Kanki puts an end to that with another precision combo that knocks Alvarez out cold! Oh man, Alvarez will never hear the end of this one!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:08 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Reino Kanki! During a confident post fight interview, Reino Kanki thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him. In defeat, Avila Alvarez stepped up to the mic, saying 'This feud...it isn't over!'.

#R1##TD# Alvarez decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Alvarez passes into side control, despite Kanki's attempt to control the position.
Kanki takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Alvarez throwing shots but missing, from side control. Kanki tries to get back to half guard but can't. Kanki looking for a sweep but Alvarez has passed into full mount! Oh no! Kanki keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Alvarez lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kanki gets back to half guard. Alvarez missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Alvarez throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. #T1# Alvarez working over Kanki with some ground and pound. Kanki looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Kanki trying to control here.

Kanki is looking to clinch but Alvarez is avoiding it.

Alvarez wants to stand but Kanki is controlling the position. My spies in Helsinki Fight Club inform me that Kanki has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Alvarez wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Kanki manages to pass to side control. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kanki prevents Alvarez from standing back up.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Alvarez tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops. Kanki really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Alvarez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Reino Kanki showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! #ES# Alvarez is looking to stand back up. He's having to work hard to escape but eventually he manages it. Horrible takedown attempt by Alvarez or perhaps it was just good defense by Kanki, which made it look bad.

Ford throws out a leg kick but Kanki moves out of range and Ford only half commits. Kanki darts in trying to clinch enabling Ford to counter with a crisp jab. Ford displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Kanki. We've been told by Ford's head coaches at Turbo Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.#CL# Ford closes the distance and clinches. Ford lands a body punch in the clinch. Ford keeps control of Kanki as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Ford pressing his opponent against the cage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ford lands with a right to the head. Ford lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Kanki backwards. We've been informed that Kanki has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. Ford scores with a shoulder strike. A nice right hand lands inside from Ford. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Ford swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Chevy Ford has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Reino Kanki. Ford uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Kanki. Kanki takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards. Kanki looks winded! Kanki takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Ford lands a few more punches before the dopey ref steps in - hopefully Kanki is OK!

Making sure that Sun-Tzu logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty. Reino Kanki was interviewed post fight and said 'I'll be back'.

Eddard scores with a jab. Kanki acknowledges it with a nod of the head. Kanki throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. #TD# Eddard drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Eddard throwing strikes but missing. Eddard has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Kanki is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. We've been hearing that Eddard has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish. Eddard is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Kanki really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Eddard. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Eddard scoring with some ground and pound.
