Steiner lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Whack! Steiner lands a heavy head kick that drops Mendez. The ref tackles Steiner to stop the fight - a great save by the referee because Mendez was done.

Mendez shoots for a double leg takedown but Amirkhani sprawls well. He's pushed Mendez's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Nice sprawl there from Amirkhani as Mendez shoots in. Amirkhani lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Mendez avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Amirkhani throws an overhand right that lands on Mendez's shoulder, as Mendez tries to avoid the shot. Mendez attempts a counter takedown but Amirkhani avoids it well and moves away. Amirkhani throws a big shot that misses. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mendez slips under a jab. Mendez tries to counter with a takedown but Amirkhani is quick to defend against it. Pretty Boy Amirkhani seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Amirkhani throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Mendez fails with the takedown and Amirkhani counters with a right hand to the body. Mendez has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Hay after a bit of a struggle. A short right hand to the side of the head by Hay. Hay prevents the takedown attempt.
Nick Hay has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Raul Mendez. Mendez tries to pull guard but Hay won't allow it.
Mendez drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Hay gets the underhooks and prevents it.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. A short body shot lands from Hay as the two fighters clinch.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Mendez has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Mendez walks away with a smile on his face. Korotkov gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Korotkov misses with the combination.
#TD2# Mendez closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Korotkov to the mat! Korotkov manages to get full guard. #SUB2# Mendez drops back looking for a leg! Korotkov is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Korotkov manages to kick Mendez off! Mendez jumps back into Korotkov's guard. Gautier stuffs the takedown attempt from Mendez. Mendez gets slowly back to his feet. Mendez shoots in but Gautier avoids the takedown attempt easily. I was talking to Mendez's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Gautier lands a left hand that snaps the head of Mendez backwards. Gautier makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut. Gautier lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage. Mendez is breathing heavily. Eventually the ref decides to do his job and jumps in - Gautier screams abuse at the incompetent official before going over to celebrate with his corner. Brutal stuff!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mendez is still trying to improve position. Batongbakal is pausing for a moment. What's he doing?
