#R1# Mendez avoids a punch combination nicely.
Mendez wants to counter with a clinch but Kowalski pushes him away. Mendez takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Kowalski connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.#CUT# It looks like Guillermo Mendez has been cut. Kowalski definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.#TD# Mendez gets caught napping as Kowalski dives in and scores a takedown. Mendez manages to retain guard.#ROC# Mendez is rocked! Kowalski is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Mendez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.#SUB2# Mendez is looking for a triangle but Kowalski pushes his legs off easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kowalski looking to pass the guard. Mendez trying to control the position.
Kowalski loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. #T1##SUB2# Mendez looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Kowalski content to stall in guard here. Mendez is looking to stand up but Kowalski isn't so interested in that idea. Mendez wants to control but Kowalski passes easily into half guard.
Mendez is trying to control but can't.
Mendez regains full guard. Nicely done. Mendez keeping moving, preventing Kowalski from controlling successfully. #SUB2# Mendez is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Kowalski has his hands clasped together but Mendez extends and breaks Kowalski's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Mendez.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Guillermo Mendez!

#R1# Kowalski misses with the combination.
Donk. Alenitchev catches Kowalski right on the button with a cross. Alenitchev has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Kowalski is landing a low percentage of strikes. Alenitchev misses with a wild body shot. Alenitchev fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. Alenitchev lands with a cross. #ROC2# Kowalski is rocked! Kowalski throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Alenitchev. Oh Kowalski is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Kowalski shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Alenitchev counters with a huge overhand right that connects right on the temple, sending him crumpling, face first to the floor! This one is all over! What a knockout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Yuri Alenitchev! Yuri Alenitchev very nearly forgot to thank Instinct [out of stock until Feb 03 2016] amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you.
