Susi tries to bum rush Funakoshi with a series of wild strikes but Funakoshi uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Funakoshi uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Susi. Susi takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. Susi throws a hook to the side of Funakoshi's head but Funakoshi sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Susi throws a wild body kick that Funakoshi sees coming a mile off. Funakoshi appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Funakoshi is looking to clinch. Funakoshi scores with a leg kick.

He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable. Funakoshi tries to work over Susi's front leg with a kick but Susi checks it. Susi avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Funakoshi checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side. Funakoshi was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind. Funakoshi pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Funakoshi uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Morueco. Funakoshi is looking to score with low kicks. Funakoshi looks to land a body kick but Morueco moved away. Morueco looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Winfield can do anything to dispel that myth. Winfield tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Winfield tries to roll over but Funakoshi keeps him under control.#T4# Funakoshi is trying to control. Gichin Funakoshi dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. #R2# A solid leg kick lands there for Funakoshi.

Winfield has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.#TD# Funakoshi closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Winfield to the mat! Winfield manages to get full guard. Winfield looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Funakoshi puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Funakoshi looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Winfield with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Winfield is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Funakoshi thows a huge punch but Winfield dodges it nicely.

He's shot a load of snot all down Winfield's shoulder. That is not cool. Winfield manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Funakoshi winds up and cracks Winfield with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Winfield wants to get back to full guard but Funakoshi has mounted him! Winfield is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Winfield sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Winfield is staying active underneath Funakoshi, who seems content to just control the action from this position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Winfield is looking to improve his position.
