#R1# A slow jab from Joey misses its intended target. Bastad shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Joey swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Joey tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Bastad was well out of range. Poor timing from Joey. No luck for Bastad with that takedown attempt. Joey takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Bastad tries to close the distance and clinch but Joey swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Bastad darts in looking for a takedown but Joey gets double underhooks and turns Bastad into the cage. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Bastad. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chris Bastad. That's going to take a lot out of him. Joey throws a right hand that Bastad ducks under and follows up with a left that Bastad also avoids with ease. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Joey lands a head shot. Joey scores with a one two! Bastad had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes. #CUT2# It looks like Chris Bastad has been cut. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Bastad looks for a takedown but Joey sprawls well. Joey throws a series of punches but Bastad avoids them all with ease. Nice sprawl there from Joey as Bastad shoots in.#T1# Bastad takes one on the button. Chris Bastad seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Joey misses with a looping right. Joey has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight. Nice takedown defense from Joey. No joy for Bastad on that attempt. Bastad has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Joey finds it's way round the side to connect with Bastad's head. Joey swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Bastad. Bastad walks into a straight right hand from Joey. Joey lands a head shot. Bastad takes one to the side of the head.

Bastad fails with a takedown attempt. Joey with the counter takedown but Bastad avoids it easily. Bastad misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. This has been an exciting period of action! Bastad shoots in looking for a takedown. Joey tries to sprawl out of it but Bastad keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Joey manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. #T2# Joey lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Bastad wants to clinch#TD2# and Joey counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. #SUB# Bastad is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Bastad is breathing heavily. Joey wants to get up but he can't break Bastad's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. #SUB# Bastad looking for a triangle here. Joey is fighting it but it looks tight! Bastad pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Joey is tapping out - this one is all over!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Surprise is still trying to improve position.#T1# The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Surprise trying to control here.
#REF3# The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Joey moves out of range of the strikes. Surprise swings for the body but Joey moves out of range.
WhatA Surprise is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Joey avoids a punch combination nicely.
As Surprise backs away, Joey returns fire with a leg kick that just misses. Joey avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
#T2# Surprise tries to clinch up. A counter left hand to the body from Joey misses its target. Surprise looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Joey seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter. Joey shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Surprise as he jumps to the side. Horrible takedown attempt by Joey or perhaps it was just good defense by Surprise, which made it look bad. Surprise fails in his attempt to clinch. Surprise tries to clinch up but Joey circles away and keeps his distance. Joey went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected. Surprise misses with the combination.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Surprise squirms to his side and now Joey has his back! Joey is not going to allow Surprise to sit and survive in this position. Surprise has been the more effective fighter overall so far. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Surprise working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though. Surprise wants to pass the guard but Joey is keeping the position. Surprise looking to sit in guard and control but Joey gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. #REVR# Joey stopping the sweep attempt from Surprise.#T4# Surprise wants to improve his position but instead Joey has moved into half guard.

Surprise wants to hit a switch here but Joey passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Surprise there! #T3##SU# Joey get's back to his feet. Surprise looks to land a left hand but Joey moved out of range nicely. Joey throws a big counter combination but Surprise scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage. Joey shoots for a double leg takedown but Surprise sprawls well. He's pushed Joey's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Joey sets himself, and Surprise steps forward looking for the clinch! Joey avoids it this time. Surprise ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Joey moves away. Joey seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter. Tariq Joey is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.#T4# My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Joey gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Boschman scores with a hook to the body. Boschman comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush. Joey is trying to drag Boschman to the mat but Boschman just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Good body shot from Boschman.
Boschman is pressed up against the cage. Joey has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Boschman down to the mat. Boschman avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. #CL# Boschman closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. A short right from Boschman on the inside. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Boschman gets underhooks to prevent Joey's takedown attempt.
Diederik Boschman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tariq Joey. Boschman lands an uppercut. Boschman throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges. Good body shot from Boschman.

They are putting on a show! Boschman comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Boschman creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Boschman lands a shot to the body. Boschman gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head. #CUT# The cut above Tariq Joey's eye is starting to cause him problems now. Boschman lands a nice elbow. Boschman presses Joey against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot. Boschman gets through Joey's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. Boschman creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Joey's defenses. A quick uppercut on the inside from Boschman. #CUT# Tariq Joey's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters. Nice elbow from Boschman.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Diederik Boschman! Diederik Boschman tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.

Joey throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Avare misses with an uppercut. Joey saw that one coming. Joey looks to score with a jab to the body but Avare is just out of range. Avare will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Joey takes a swing at Avare's ribcage but misses. Avare lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Joey circles away quickly and effectively. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Joey throws a body punch but Avare moves out of range. Avare will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Joey is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Avare will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Joey controlling his opponent. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Joey controlling from mount.
