Veleno dives in for a single leg takedown but Conner sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
A quick step to the side and Conner tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.

Conner clinches up with Veleno and pushes him back against the cage.
Conner can't get the takedown. #BC2#
Veleno breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Veleno shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Conner sprawls well. Conner wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Veleno gets slowly back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Conner shoots in for a double leg but Veleno sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Veleno.

Veleno looks to land a body kick but Conner moved away.
Veleno shoots and misses
and Conner counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Veleno throws a head kick that misses.

Veleno instigates a clinch.

Conner wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Conner gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Veleno. #BC2#
Veleno breaks from the clinch.
Veleno moves in looking to clinch but Conner pushes him off.
Veleno scores with the left hand. Conner knows he should have avoided that one. #ROC2#
Conner is rocked!
Veleno measures up his opponent and throws a superman punch that connects to the jaw! Down goes Conner! The ref steps in, and that's the ball game folks!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:47 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Superman Punch). Tommy Veleno!

Conner shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Laraque as he avoids it easily.
Laraque misses the jab.
Laraque fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss. #CL#
Conner forces Laraque back against the cage and clinches.#BC2#
Laraque escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Conner misses with a body shot.
Laraque looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Conner seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Laraque stalks Conner and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Conner's face. Conner staggers backwards, shaken.#CUT2#
It looks like Shad Conner has been cut.#KD2#
Laraque drops Conner with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Conner looks back up at him and smiles so Laraque waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed. #ROC2#
Conner is rocked!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Laraque Throws a clean left jab. Laraque Twirls his body and connects with a Spinning Back Fist that connects flush with Conner's chin! Conner crumbles to the ground and Laraque follows up with some unanswered strikes. It's all over!! Nice standup skills displayed by Laraque!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Georges Laraque!

Ducas fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Conner to the ground. Ducas is now in Conner's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ducas's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Let's hope that Ducas has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Ducas lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Ducas looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Ducas throws a big right hand that misses.
Ducas trying to control but Conner is working from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.#T1#
Ducas slips nicely into half guard.
Ducas has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. #SUB2#
Ducas wants to finish this one by submission but Conner is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Ducas.
Ducas takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.#SUB2#
Ducas jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Conner manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Conner tries to bench press Ducas off him but Ducas keeps the position. #T2##SUB2#
Ducas tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Ducas has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Ducas works to advance to full mount. Conner defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Ducas has hold of Conner's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Conner manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Conner tries to hold on but Ducas postures up.
Ducas trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Conner wants to control but Ducas is having none of it.#T3#

Conner is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Ducas locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Conner is forced to tap!
