Mathews utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Maciel controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Maciel accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Maciel is looking to work some ground and pound but Mathews has wrist control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mathews has left one of his arms exposed and Maciel doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Mathews screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
