#R1##TD# Mathews gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Maciel to score an easy takedown into full guard. Mathews utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Maciel controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Maciel accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Maciel is looking to work some ground and pound but Mathews has wrist control. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Maciel tries to free his leg and advance position but Mathews is retaining full guard. Maciel missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Maciel trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Maciel postures up in Mathews's guard and throws a big left but Mathews blocks it. #T1# Maciel slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. #SUB# Maciel is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Maciel not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Maciel throws a big elbow that misses. Maciel passes Mathews's left leg - he's now in half guard. Maciel not landing any meaningful shots this time. #T2# A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Mathews avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Maciel. Maciel works his way into full mount! #SUB# Mathews defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Maciel. Maciel content just to control the position here. Mathews holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Maciel tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Maciel has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Maciel throws some wild stikes that Mathews manages to avoid easily.

#T3##SUB# Mathews has left one of his arms exposed and Maciel doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Mathews screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
