Zulu thinks about countering with a body kick. Petrov swings away with a leg kick that misses. Bodgan Petrov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Zulu jabs Petrov to the body, keeping him at a distance. Zulu throws a jab when Petrov was well out of range. Petrov has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. #R1# Petrov throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Petrov takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Aoki throws a hook to the side of Petrov's head but Petrov sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Aoki scores with a decent looking hook. Petrov takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Petrov uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Aoki. We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Aoki has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. Petrov looks to throw the jab but Aoki is out of range. Aoki has his takedown stuffed#CL# and Petrov moves into the clinch.#BC# Petrov pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Speed closes the distance and pushes Petrov back into the cage. Petrov looking for a takedown. Speed goes for a takedown attempt but Petrov pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Gonzalez throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land. The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Gonzalez checks a leg kick. Petrov connects with a leg kick. Gonzalez looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it. Gonzalez will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Gonzalez takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rush's coach down at Canadian Dragon MMA was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Rush's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. Rush takes a body punch but keeps moving. Rush tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Kevin Rush seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
