#R1# Reeves misses with a right hand #CL# and Mayer holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. #TD2# Mayer is fighting off a takedown attempt but Reeves is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Mayer to the mat. Mayer regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.#SU2# Reeves gets to his feet - Mayer follows without any prompting. Reeves throws a wild combination but nothing lands. #CL# Mayer moves into the clinch. Reeves working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.#TD2# Reeves jumps guard.
Mayer stopping the sweep attempt from Reeves. Reeves is still trying to improve position. Mayer with a flurry of punches that miss. Reeves looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Mayer puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Reeves wants to improve his position but Mayer is controlling well.
Reeves is pressing down on Mayer's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.#T1# Reeves wants to sweep here but Mayer controlling him for the moment. Mayer is looking to work some ground and pound but Reeves has wrist control. Reeves preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Reeves trying to keep a closed guard but Mayer is proving a slippery customer.
Mayer trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Reeves wants to sweep here but Mayer controlling him for the moment. Mayer scoring with punches to the head and body. #T2# Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.#SUB2# Reeves is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Mayer defends well. Mayer stopping the sweep attempt from Reeves. Reeves is trying to control the position but Mayer postures up. #REF3# The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Mayer lands with a nice combination. Reeves backs away looking to recover. Reeves throws a leg kick but Mayer moved away.#CL# Mayer drives through and clinches with Reeves against the cage.
#BC2# Reeves breaks from the clinch.
#CL2# Reeves darts in and clinches Mayer up against the cage.#BC2# Reeves breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
#T3# Reeves throws a combination that misses #TD# and Mayer decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Reeves's guard. Mayer preventing the sweep. Mayer working some strikes from top position.#SUB2# Reeves is looking for a triangle but Mayer pushes his legs off easily.
Reeves has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Mayer has passed into side control.
Reeves takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Mayer is trying to ground and pound but Reeves uses the momentary lack of control by Mayer to regain half guard. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Reeves is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. #T4# Reeves keeps trying to improve his position. Mayer scoring with strikes to the body and head. Mayer is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mayer drops an elbow to the side of Reeves's head. Mayer prevents Reeves from improving his position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Ellsworth Mayer will probably get the nod. That's time! Back to the action! #R2# Reeves throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
As Reeves tries to get set, Mayer tries to push him back and clinch up but Reeves manages to avoid the attempt. Reeves chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Reeves stuffs the takedown. No joy there for Mayer, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Reeves wants to counter the offense by Mayer and move into the clinch position. Mayer drops his hands for a split second and Reeves immediately capitalizes on the opportunity by smashing a powerful hook into Mayer face, sending his mouthguard sailing through the air, much to the delight of the crowd. Reeves follows up with a right hand that knocks Mayer into next week. He's out cold and this fight is over!
