Elf wants to stand and escape but instead Friend has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. #REVR# Friend content to stall in guard here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Friend pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Friend keeping moving, preventing Ferrell from controlling successfully. #SU2# Ferrell stands up from guard. Let's bang! Ferrell shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Friend pinned against the cage. Friend gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Ferrell has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Friend is landing a low percentage of strikes.#TD# Friend looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.#SUB2# Ferrell looking for submissions off his back.#SUB# Friend looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Elf pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. A head kick by Elf misses #TD# so Friend counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Friend content to stall in guard here. Elf is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Friend is controlling him. Elf being controlled here, momentarily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.#ES2# Elf has his feet on Friend's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. #T1# Elf misses with a jab, cross combination.

Elf has been the more effective fighter overall so far. No joy there for Elf, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.#ES# Friend scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Felton Simpson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Simpson is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Friend is controlling him. Simpson can't keep his opponent in guard - Friend advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Friend is trying to control the action in half guard but Simpson is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Friend takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Friend should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
